I've got a d&d and everyone knows who I am in town. kinda sucks, especially when ya feel like playin around after midnight. I hear about it the next day. but also remember-loud pipes save lives. people CAN hear you and know you're there. mines on a 929 for the record

The sound is directed behind you, so oncoming traffic will not know you are there. If you want high visibility, get a HID lighting system, & then people infront will know you are there. Personally, I would rather have a "stealth" pipe, and remain anonymous... no attention is good attention. I'd vote for a Hindle pipe with a noise reducing insert. (rumbly, but not obnoxiously loud), or a 2 Bros CF, with an M4 endcap & sound reducing insert. Just my .02c

The "myth" about loud pipes saving lives is pure BS made up by some idiot trying to justify an obnoxious exhaust. You want to be that loud, why spend any money. Just tear off the can and run open headers... No attention is definately the best attention.

I hope oncoming traffic can see me, they will if they're watching the road anyways. all I know is people can hear me coming from like a 1/2 mile away. so when I'm cruising by the guy on the highway I'd bet he can hear me when I'm right next to him. it would probably keep him from changing lanes when I'm beside him. I dunno-I'm not gonna argue. I shouldn't have made the comment. you guys enjoy your quiet exhausts

When it comes down to it, no one buys a loud exhaust because they think its safer if people can hear them from far away. They buy loud exhausts because they like loud exhausts, period. If you can be heard from a 1/2 mile away, chances are YOU won't be hearing much of anything. Its dangerous when a rider can't hear whats going on around him, which is why its illegal to wear earbuds when you ride, because they block out all outside sounds. So while the guy next to you might hear you, chances are you can't hear a damn thing. So if you can't see it, you arent aware of it. Put that together with the other super cool trend of removing your mirrors. How safe is that?

Not true, I used to ride around, listening to mp3's all the time. I was still able to hear what was going on around me. I could hear horns and knew when other bikers were riding up behind me, getting ready to pull up and talk to me. Knowing your surroundings is the most important thing. I'm always looking around. I do feel it is a bit safer without them. And on a side note, is it legal for a deaf person to ride a motorcycle?

Regardless, it is illegal to wear earbuds because it impairs your ability to hear (artificially) AND is considered a distraction. Depending on the earbuds, you may or may not be able to hear some things. The foam ones arent oo bad, but the neoprene ones block sound so well you can barely hear anything with them on, let alone add a helmet on top of that.
