600 Low End Power

cjbettis -> 600 Low End Power (12/18/2005 9:59:35 PM)

So what would you guys recommend....specific to the engine and what you guys do?

Equally important is the why.

THANKS!!!

there really isn't much as far as doing work to the engine to get lowend power on a 600.
as far as best bang for the buck...regear and you'll get your low end.

it would just be wierd to redo the engine to gain low end. i suppose you could bore it out for more HP.

chainstretcher -> RE: 600 Low End Power (12/19/2005 6:10:41 PM)

Exactly -- the 600's never were intended for low end torque. You get a nice short stroke which = high rpm fun. I know that isn't what ya wanted to here but for the $$ involved in making it a low rpm horse is kinda silly. A full exhaust with PCIII plus degree'd cam sprockets will help a bit but still won't pull til you hit big rpms. Even though they make more power than I'd ever have believed, the old quote is still true -- "there's no replacement for displacement".

That is the case with the short stroke motors. We have some of the guys with the 600 in race cars, stroking the cranks to get some bottom end.

So this is not something my bike is facing; I was wondering why the LOW end is so BAD.

I am looking at doing some mods to achieve some low end, I am looking at playing around with the following aspects (My Next Project)

:- Exhaust; (Once i get the measurement; maybe run them on simulators)
:- Carbs / Air Filters
:- Gearing ( As long as i do not lose any top-end)
:- Timing / CDI
:- Some Weight Loss (Both me and the BIke :) )

Do let me know if anyone has some inputs on this

These motors are designed as top end power. That is; short stroke and multi valve design. Basically thet is what you get when you buy a small displacement multi valve engine.
Any modification that enhances breathing is a top end modification. More camshaft, bigger carbs, this stuff will not help bottom end. What will is making a bigger motor, bore and/or stroke increases. As you increase the engine displacement, without increasing the breathing, you are moving the powerband lower down the rpm range.

i'll tell you what i'm going to do.. buy a 1000rr. from what i hear it has a litle more low end. WHEELY POWER.

if you do sprockets for low end power. you wil llose some top end.

I did the 520 conversion on mine and put a bigger cam in it to gain that top end back.

Oh you'll get more than a little!

yeah ull probably have too much low end than u know what to do with u really dont have to try and it will come up but the question is how experienced are you and can you handle that much more power. i mean what about 40 horses doesnt seem like much but it really is

dusterdude -> RE: 600 Low End Power (3/21/2008 11:37:58 AM)

im in the same boat here, just bought a 98 f3 and im going to dragrace it,i need some more bottom end on it,can you folks recommend a gearing setup that will the bottom end without sacrificing too much top.thanks

fastBYfritz -> RE: 600 Low End Power (3/30/2008 4:55:22 PM)

I drag race a 04 CBR 600RR. I run 1 down in the front and 2 up in the back. Thats all I run as far as gearing. I also have a powere commander PC3 and an air shifter. Im running 1.53-1.60 60' times, and 6.37-6.65 et's(depends on track). Its all how you have the bike prepped and how you ride, ie; how you launch the bike. . Im only putting out about 104hp at the wheel. And stock wheel base CBR'S are wheelie machine's. You can stand them up all day long.  As for sacrificing top end, it's going to happen when you change your sprockets. But do you really need to be doing 160+ on the street?????
