I just bought a new 05' 1000RR and have about 300 miles on it. It runs and handles great! I've begun to notice a ticking sound with engine idling, what one might think is a sticky valve perhaps. Has/does anyone else experience this sound on their bike?

Thanks,

John

Unfortunately with the insane amounts of power coming from such a small package you will hear a little valve train chatter. Nothing to worry about. If the ticking gets louder/faster as you rev it then have it checked out. The compression ratio is kinda high on these things too so it you lug it when starting off it'll detonate a smidge. All in all it's a remarkably well behaved racing platform with minimum squeaks and rattles.

I'm glad to hear it is somewhat normal. Hate to have a problem with a new one. Beautiful weather today, I'm off for a ride. Anyone hail from Ventura county or San Fernando Valley?

a little noise is normal. You should also get a pronounced tick at the bottom RPM range, say 2500 to 3500 (Injectors)

I get the same noise with my '03 CBR954RR. just got used to it after a while. glad to know someone with an '05 CBR1000RR gave me a glimpse of what to expect when I take delivery of my Repsol. Coz' I sure hate surprises. but you guys are right, with all that power pack into such a small package, something like this, this noise I mean, is bound to happen. almost got my repsol, paid off, but even if I can't get it paid off, I have to take delivery at the end of this month. My honda dealer said they can only keep it for another month. they we're suppose to receive another repsol (they were allocated 2) but, it turned out, they will only end up with 1 repsol (mine) so glad I happen to be at the right place at the right time, another guy almost beat me to it. so off to the garage I go, need to find a space for my new "baby" later, all you CBR FREAKS!!!! (ME INCLUDED)

My 900 has the same sound i was a little worried about it. I thought setting the valves might help but wasnt sure. I havew not got arround to doing it yet, I need to put a new exhaust on it first. all it has right now is a header (no canister). On a side note has any one heard what the full exhaust Erion system sounds like on a larger displacement cbr. I used to have just the canister and I loved it. It wasnt to loud but it was still pretty I am wondering if the full system will be any and how much louder. Thanks
