I just picked up an 06 RR. Just wondering what people consider some must have mods/accessories for it?

So far I'd like to get some form of engine/fairing guards, steering damper, exhaust pipe, tinted windscreen.

Mostly just the engine/fiaring guards and a steering damper for safety purposes. Anything else I could use? Also recommendations on the types of accessories/mods would be greatly appreciated :)

you dont need to mod any of it
mods that i personally must have

fork sliders, frame sliders,
swingarm spools. stompgrip
steel brake lines, clutch and stator sliders

after that get your suspension set up by a competenet tech.

then its all up to you
make sure you have proper gear then decide what you want to do with the bike.
ocassional track day. i wouldnt do anything else.
full on track bike,
lightweight parts to include pipe, 520 regearing, pc3 with custom map etc

The mods I "had" on my 06 included......

- Rizoma Zero turn signals
- HID headlamps (one of the best mods I could have ever made)
- Custom "Raccoon Mask" vinyl graphics in front
- Custom "Raccoon Tail" rear Fender Eliminator kit
- Lightning Performance Frame Sliders (excellent brand)
- Pinstriped wheels (not rim stripes either)
- Lettering decals on tires
- 520 chain/sprocket conversion with stock gearing

Here's a pic from when I bought it to what it looked like a couple months ago (before the accident)....

It's amazing what little modifications you can do to make a bike look 100% better. But I would definitely look into an HID retrofit kit if you ride at night a lot. Helps dramatically.

Thanks for the advice so far. This will be my first sport bike by the way. I've had a cruiser for awhile just to learn on and I think I'm finally ready to step it up to something faster and sexier. Cool aesthetic accesory recommendations are also most definitely welcome

Oh by the way fox your bike looks absolutely badass now (Hope the accident didn't beat her up too bad). The 6 hours old picture is exactly the same as the one I just bought. I can't wait to pimp it out though. Its true that the little modifications make it look that much cooler.

cruiser to sportbike is very very different.

you ride a sport bike a lot differently. take it slow for a bit until you are used to it.  power comes on a lot faster than with a cruiser

No worries there. I plan on taking it quite slow and always wearing the proper gear. I live out in the country so theres lot of empty roads to practice on.

Must have = GEAR, GEAR, and (if you can afford it) MORE GEAR.

Get the best helmet you can afford, a good jacket, good gloves, a decent set of boots, and some riding (armored) pants

The right gear not only will keep you safer, it will make the ride more enjoyable (both in the heat, and in the cold)

Not to mention it looks cool as hell
(and way better than squiding it up on your best wifebeater, shorts and baseball cap)

As far as protection for the bike itself what all I should I get for it? Frame/fork/clutch sliders, swingarm spools, anything else? Baxsom seemed to have a pretty good list of things, but I have no idea what a stompgrip or strator sliders are...

Congrads on the new bike, a cheap mod that looks tight is blackin out the windscreen, I took mine off and painted the back of it with a semi-gloss black spray paint, it looks great and its alot cheaper than buyin a tinted one.

stomp grip is put on the tank to allow you to hold on tighter
stator sliders are a replacement cover made from woodcraft. they are thicker than oem and have an aluminum plate to absorb the damage

I have had my bike since sept and it still is completely stock. I just enjoy riding and I know I dont need any performance parts seeing I will never use the bike to its full potential. The only thing I got was a nice pair of riding gloves with knuckle protection, alpinestars jacket and a helmet. Be safe and get the gear first. There are to many riders out there with just a helmet and in my opinion that isnt enough. It kills me to see guys riding around in sandals and a tee shirt

For me personally I own all the gear I could ever need (2 of most things actually) and dont get a new bike all that often but I have done Stomp Grip on all, ZG Double Bubble on all, Re Gear each.  Depends on what is lacking on a particular bike I guess.  My 600 was stock the whole time.  My 900 needed more power so a full exhaust/jet kit were put on and a Corbin seat, regeared.  My 1000 has shitty brakes so Brembo/Goodridge were called upon to fix that, the power is fine just needed some tweaking to make it managable so a PCIII was put on along with making my throttle tube a 1/5th turn throttle.  It all depends on what you want to accomplish.  Ohlins should be installed on every bike anymore.  Shitty suspension should be a thing of the past but for some reason it's not. I suppose price has a play in that and what people are willing to pay for a new bike.
