I did searches and read the tuturial on how to diagnose but have no multimeter to check with. So here's my story: the bike is a 2003 cbr600rr that I bought about 6 months ago. Been running fine for first 4 or 5 months then the battery died. I replaced battery and recharged the dead one. However the battery seems only to last 2-3 weeks than dies. I charge the batt and put it back and its fine. Another thing was one day I was riding and the bike got hot from being in traffic around 220f, when I reached my destination I went into a store for like 5 minutes and when came back the bike wouldnt turn over. I bump started it, got it home and let it cool off. After that it started up fine. While to this day the batt only stays good for about 2 weeks. Anyone have ideas of what is wrong without me having to meter things? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Do a search for "voltage regulator" or "voltage rectifier"...9 out of 10 chance yours is bad. Change it out for a 05/06 mount bracket & voltage regulator / rectifier assembly (most importantly the mounting bracket).

Got your PM D_Dub. thanks for contacting me. without a Multimeter to test it with, you can only guess. I don't like to guess. however, it sure as hell sounds like it's the R/R... sadly, a R/R failure can cause ancillary damage to the electrical system, to include the battery. depending on the severity of the R/R failure your 2 batteries may have been over charged and subsequently shorted out rendering them pretty much useless. go out and buy yourself a multimeter. you don't need a fancy-nancy one, just one that reads voltage and resistance. should cost you around $30. after you test the R/R (and subsequently replace it with a late 2004-2006 reg/rec complete with the bracket that's bent up, should cost peanuts at a salvage yard) test the stator windings to make sure they weren't damaged. http://webpages.charter.net/knightslugger/CSA.pdf use this guide to your advantage. check out page 4. if you like, i can tell you why it failed, what the design difference is, and why Honda wont do anything about it.

thanks everyone for their help! Now I gotta go out and buy a meter. I live in Hawaii and we don't have many salvage yards with bikes that I know of... I'll look around for one. Thanks again everyone
