depends on the state law,  In Minnesota you are required to have at least 1 mirror.

Mirrors are a must have to avoid being called a squid.

With the little research I've done, every state requires you to have mirrors (either 1 or both). But each state varies on how strictly it's enforced.

Off the top of my head, I would have said "Yes". Doing some research, however, made me find this out:

Idaho does not require a mirror at all.

Indiana only requires one if the bike was manufactured after 1/1/1956.

Kansas, Louisiana, and the District of Columbia require a left mirror.

Maryland, Nevada, Oklahoma, and Washington require both a left and right mirror.

Pennsylvania requires two mirrors if the bike was manufactured after 4/1/1977.

All the remaining states require one mirror.

Yeah, mirrors are kinda important. Buddy of mine got fleeing and eluding b/c he didn't check his mirrors for an hour on the highway. He was riding his usual crazy pace and got a call when he got to his destination because his riding partner had spotted the cops and stopped. He came back and was cited for not having mirrors and when he went to pay the ticket he found out he had a warrant for fleeing and eluding. Keep at least one mirror. Needless to say, I never try to keep up with him.

i use them religously on the main roads, but little on the highway, mainly because of my riding position.

Can't imagine riding without them unless on the track

I just look. my didnt have any one when I bought the bike. i was going to get some, but I like looking more, i have ridden bikes with mirrors and i had to look anyways because i couldnt see everying anyways. probably not the safest way to go i know.

as far as the law goes, i live in florida and have not had a cop say anything to me yet, mabey just because i had nice cops though, they didnt say anything about my plate being way up under my tail either.

Mirrors are there to assist the rider. They're not meant to ONLY be used when changing lanes. You are supposed to use your mirrors for quick glances, and head check when changing lanes. If you're doing 45 and it takes you 2 seconds to look back just to check on traffic behind you, you've just covered 132 feet without looking. In city traffic, that's a little scary. Mirrors are invaluable, because you always have an extremely quick way to check on what's going on behind you, without physically moving your head.

My two cents anyway.

Hell just hook up an RV back up camera in the tail and 17" monitor in front and you wont need any mirrors.

guess i could just ride backwards...

i agree fox

i use the mirrors for more than just lane changes. i especially use them when coming to a stop to make sure the car behind is aware of me and doesn't slam into me.
