if your chain is within specification for stretch, then no. if it's ready to be replaced (which means new sprockets too) then yes, but depends on the specifics. a conversion is only a conversion of the chain pitch. 's got nothing to do with the diameter of the sprockets. that's just a simple gearing change. a 520 is lighter and is sometimes cheaper and stronger than a regular 525 pitch chain.

again, depends on the specifics. no simple answer.

When it came time to replace my chain and sprockets, I did the 520 conversion with the stock gearing. I couldn't feel any difference in power, responsiveness, nothing really. You get less rotating mass, but it's so little that it really doesn't matter for street applications. When you're trying to improve your lap times by .05 of a second.......maybe. But for street, it really doesn't matter.

for a street bike going to a 520 in stock gearing wont be a noticible difference. because you wont (read shouldnt) being doing 100mph curves
for a street bike any change in gearing in 520 or 525 will be more noticed than a slip on

for a track bike the 520 will be more noticed on high speed corners due to the less rotating mass.

I agree, unless your serious racing, you'll only notice in your wallet.  more expensive, plus it wears out quicker.
