ok.  about a month ago I got real lucky and found this guy that dropped his low mileage (940) 600.  It is in very good driveable condition and only had mainly cosmetic damage.  He had an estimate where basically every scratch was used to total it out and I got it for an insane low price.

I replaced everything mechanical that was damaged including a new fairing stay from the dealer.  I bought a set of lightly used fairings off of ebay and ordered a new set of flushmount signals.

well, last night I start putting it all together and the upper side fairings aren't fitting.  I bolted the right one to the mid bolt attachment, slipped the tabs into the tank fairing and then I go to attach to the front cowl and the MOTHER'FER is about three inches too high!  I have to bend it over the radiator cap and down to get even close. Which looks wayyy wrong.

Has anyone else experienced this problem and know what the hell is going on?

thanks in advance for any input!

have you checked the mounting brackets? also what about the frame being tweaked? that could be the reason that a brand new bike would be totalled out by an insurance company.  they total bikes out if it costs more to repair the bike than it would to pay what the book says its worth. even if the bike is a mint condition 2003, and you have money in it. if that 2003 bike is worth 4300 according to the books, and it costs more to repair they will total the bike out.  if its an 07 with less than a 1k miles on it the only reason they would total the bike out is if there is something seriously wrong with it.

according to this book,
http://www.motorcyclebluebook.com/trusted_value_search.asp
your bike at 940 miles brand new is worth trade in at 6,413,  and retail at 8,551.

kelley blue book on the other hand is way different at 5,300 trade in and 7,655 retail
http://www.kbb.com/kbb/Motorcycles/Trade-In.aspx

so if it was just cosmetic theres no way that the insurance company would pay out 5300 bucks for only cosmetic work.   i could be wrong but there is something else there.

I've got two 07 600RR's and have the fairings off constantly. How about some pics to help show whats going on? Take detailed pics of how they are fitting together and perhaps I'll be able to help.

The frame  is not bent as I said it is in very good DRIVEABLE condition (frame doesen't even have a scratch on it).  I've had it up to 130.  The guy I bought it from gave me a copy of the estimate to fix which he provided to the insurance company for payment.  Every  scratch was accounted for in the estimate.  It was layed down at low speed (forks and front wheel are perfect), hell I even saw a copy of the police report describing the accident.

Cozye.. I thought about pics as soon as I posted.  I'll take some tonight and post tomorrow if I can't figure it out... thanks.  Does your right side cowl clear the radiator cap?

Yes, the fairings fit well on my bikes. They are a bit tricky to mount, but once you get the hang of it, it is nothing. So thats why I was wanting to see the pics.

pics below.  I took off the front fairing to check and see if there was a problem in how I mounted the fairing stay.  Not sure if anyone can tell by looking at these as to what the problem is.  I can always take more.  Basically, the right fairing when bolted in and top tabs inserted into tank fairing is hanging up on the top of the radiator and needs to be bent down severely over the radiator cap (about 3in to high) to match up with mounting points on the front cowl under the lights.

Hard to tell from your pics. Looks to me like the wiring plugs and some of the stuff behind the faring is getting in the way. There are stand offs for those to snap to so that they aren't haning loose and getting in the way.

Also, when monting that fairing, you should be cliping it into the upper between the headlights and working your way back with it before puting in the side bolts.

Do you have a service manual ? The service manual will show the proper mounting of all the crap behind the fairing. Nothing should be hanging loose. Your upper needs to be on first too.

Where are you located. I'm sure there is probably another 07 around your area and someone could probably help you out. If you were near me I'd come over.

the manual was the one thing I didn't get from the previous owner but I am planning on ordering one.  I will try this w/e to start from the front and work backwards with the side cowls.  As i said I took off the front stay as I thought I may have made a mistake in mounting it as it seems from how the fairings are fitting that it is to low.  I am real confused by this.  thanks for the input

of BTW I am just outside of Dallas

Definately start by getting the nosecone together, and work your way towards the back. Evrything seems to align better when you do it that way.

okay guys I am making progress on the fairings.  I started from the front back and did a "manual" adj to the radiator as it was out of place due to the fall from the previous owner.  Weird setup. The filler cap floats between two pieces of hose (one on each side) clamped on...

I have the right side on and it as a 9.5/10 on the level of fitment!  I am pumped and am getting out there now to finish it.  Of course the weather is turning colder this week, so riding will be pretty much nil.

Feared:  I ride with the dfwsbr group, now the Dallas group of txsbr.

be vert.....I won an '06 taillight on ebay!  It s/b here soon hopefully.  I'm really ready to ditch the huge taillight and bracket.  I am considering options on the rear turn signals.  Have seen the LED's in the pegs (from another poster in here) which is a cool look or I may just get some of the tiny amber lights and mount them near my tucked License plate.

OR, I have a trashed integrated light from my kawi that I have been thinking about salvaging the LED board/wiring etc from and fitting it inside the '06.  Wonder how hard it would be to modify the board (cut down) and fit in the '06? Or, even if it could be done or not?

Any Ideas or opinions?
