I had fouled up my plugs when i was first trying to get my bike running (I bought it out of a barn). I pulled them out and heated up the electrodes with a propane torch. basically burned off all of the shit until the electrode was white again. Put them back in and have been running them since. I know most people will say its stupid and it probably is, but I didn't want to spend the money and it worked out just fine.
Mine would crank and crank until it would eventually backfire. What was going on was that I'd crank it and have the choke on and try and get it to start and eventually it would foul the plugs. Then once they were fouled there was no chance the thing was going to start. The deceptive thing is I'd pull them and hold them to the frame and turn the engine over to see if I had spark, which I did. Finally I heated them up with the torch and popped them back in, then she took right off.

Same exact thing happened to me. What i did was charge the battery well got new and changed the plugs and it fired right up. If the gap is wrong it will foul your plugs faster and if you battery is semi or on the way out that will not send enough spark to start but enough to run the pump. When it does fire it will back fire. watch out tho if you keep that up you might hydro lock the motor wich one of my friends did and he pulled the plugs got new and grained the head

Sorry I havnt been on, I replaced the plugs and still nothing. Im having to keep my battery on charge because it goes dead after I keep trying to start it. Im just going to save some money and have a local shop clean and sync the carbs and adjust the valves and just do a complete service. I not totally familar with the bike yet to attemp to service it myself.

How long does it take for the battery to go dead? You can remove it from the bike and get it LOAD tested (any battery shop can do it).

um you dont really need a shop to do that. load testing is a good idea. if you have a volt meter just put it on dc volts, put the + to the + , the - to the - , turn the key to the on position (load)  watch the voltage then turn the high beams on (more load) and make sure the voltage doesnt drop below 10.5 dcv (i think thats the number). test for about a minute and it shouldnt drop more than one whole volt.
