I have a 93 600 F2 and it runs great never had a problem starting until now. When we tried to start it, it would back fire and sound like a shotgun had went off. It has been serviced recently and has brand new spark plugs. I need help asap, thanks.

How was your timing before? Was there any CCT noise? It definitely sounds like a timing issue of some sorts...
Good Luck.

CCT=Cam Chain Tensioner   (I had to ask, too)!
How long has the bike been setting?
Is the Battery fully charged?
Did you run it down while trying to start it?
If you charge it, use nothing bigger than a 2 amp charger on it.
Do NOT try and jump start it with a car, if the car is running.
Did you get an Owners manual? The starting sequence is in there.
Is there gas in the tank? If not alot have you switched the fuel petcock to reserve?

Yes I did run the battery down while trying to start. I hooked it up to an 2amp charger. There is plenty of gas. No I dont hear any unusual noises. The gas came out of a gas can  that had been sitting for a month or so, could the fuel have dirt or something in it? If so do I need to flush out the tank and spray the carbs with cleaner, to avoid having to take the bike to a shop.

The fuel strainer on the petcock should have taken care of dirty fuel. Age of the fuel, is another story. If its a month old, thats about as old as you want to try and use.
Are the plugs wet? I realize you said you have new plugs. It sounds like you may have flooded the engine. Pull the plugs and make sure they are clean. They can fuel foul. Especially with a weak battery. Go get a couple gallons of FRESH gas. Drain the old gas out of the carbs, using
the float bowl drain plugs. Add the new gas to the tank. If you can get rid of the old gas, do so.
DO NOT turn the engine over with the plugs out. It can hurt the ignition system if you try.
After making sure the plugs are clean and dry. Reinstall everything and try to start it.
After starting it. RIDE it. Dont start it and let it sit and idle.

Can they be cleaned and put back in? Instead of buying new ones? The reason I asked is that im on a fixed budget and cant afford to put alot of money into the bike right now. I know where the carbs are is there like a screw underneath the housing or what to drain?

On the bottom of each carb float bowl, there is a drain screw. Crack that open and fuel will run out the carb vent tube. Go to www.mrcycles.com for a exploded view of your carb's.
If you dont have, you should look for a 'Clymer' brand repair manul and an owners manual. Both are invaluable to owning your bike. You can find them used in the classified section of this forum. You can also put in a 'Want ad' asking for them.

Blow the plugs out with compressed air. Maybe you can save them. I go to Schucks, Kragen, PepBoy's for plugs.
Dealer prices on them Scare the hell outta me.

make sure that the spark plug wires are routed to the correct spark plugs just sounds like the firing order is off

the bike will still start even if the wires are routed wrong. but thats where you get the shot gun sound.... from old sparky firing off at the wrong time. as long as there is air/fuel in the cyclinder sparky will ignite it. but igniting at the wrong time leads to detonation pre ignition and back firing. in this case back firing. just track them down and double check. at the very least you can scratch it off the check list of things to look out for
