test your stator. sounds like a possible cause of your battery drainage.

ok, well this did happen a couple of times already, and when it did i screwed around with all my wiring and battery and finally it would start again. and i then checked voltage at the battery and i was gettin like 13.5 V so i thought that would mean that my v/r and alternator were still good. but if my stators goin bad would it be an intermitant problem? and how would u check that? thanks!

you check the stator by measuring resistance between the windings.

but you said it was a gradual decrease in performance before your systems whent dead, right? when you checked the battery voltage, was that with the motor running?

well i wouldn't say its a gradual decrease in performance. i'll just be riding and then my headlights go out and shortly after the engine seems like it just stops firing and totally dies. and when it did that, i kicked it down into 2nd and tried startin it that way but it seemed like it would crank but not turn over. thats whats soo confusing. cause if my stator was shorted or had an open it wouldn't charge at all and if that is the case something else would have to be causing it not to charge... but i dunno anymore lol

if your battery or a connection from/to the battery was the open circuit, that would also cause sudden loss of power.
