I'm looking for a first bike and really like the cbr600 f3 and there is one near me for the right price but before I purchase I thought I'd ask a few questions.

1.  How is the gas mileage?

2.  How is the insurence?

3.  Is it an ok first bike?  I have ridden many fast quads but never a motorcycle.

4.  Are there alot of modifications I can do?

5.  I've riden quads alot as I said, and the honda quads are always the most reliable.  Does the same hold true to bikes?

Any help is greatly appreciated :)

1.  How is the gas mileage? i mean its a motorcycle so the gas mileage is good. i dont know the exact numbers but im sure 40+ is attainable.

2.  How is the insurence?

mine was $646 for the year, full coverage in Mass.

3.  Is it an ok first bike?

this is my first bike and ive never ridden a quad or anything other than a car before this. i took the msf course and this upcoming season will be my second season. so im still a noob but so far so good. take the course and respect the bike and you'll be fine.

4.  Are there alot of modifications I can do?

sure, cosmetically and power wise. all depends on how deep your wallet is.

5.  I've riden quads alot as I said, and the honda quads are always the most reliable.  Does the same hold true to bikes?

i would say yes from what ive read and heard but like i said this is my first bike. no problems so far.

good luck with your purchase

gas mileage i would say avg is about 150  for a mixture of riding .city n highway . some people get more some get less depends on the tune of your bike and your riding style  . most ive heard ppl gettin on the highway is about 200 and change a tank .

i have my98  f3 and a 99 r6 i was payin 140 liability for the f3 i have them both on the same policy for about 3something . laibility it depends on your age where you live n what not . and some insurances i dont know if its progressive if you have a auto policy it can be dirt cheap full coverage i knwo guys with new bikes who pay about 350 a year for 1000ccs

it is a great first bike . but personally i  would not dump a whole ton of money into it your better off just gettin a newer bike  thats just my 2cents .

mods on the f3 can be pricey and so can the plastics  and certain parts .

i must say this not to toot the r6's horn because i have one but that bike was made from 99-02 same bike only thing they changed was the mirrors i think but its a solid bike looks like a newer bike and i must say it out performs my f3 . but i prefer the f3 cause it accomodates my long frame better and is more comfy to me . maybe you can  get a seat on some older bikes and get an idea  of it . if the r6 was more comfortable for me and not so compact i would easily keep that bike for  another 3 years and hone my skills at the track with it because it has a more aggressive profile to it .

but jsut a little someting you can look into . i will try to upload a pic n see comp giving probs

1.  How is the gas mileage?

I've had 3 F3's and still have 2 of them. If you're tearing it up, high 30's. Average mix, mid 40's. Taking it easy on the highway, high 40s' low 50's.

2.  How is the insurance?

For a bike this old I can't see paying for full coverage. The rates are stupid. Liability, comprehensive, personal injury are all I've got. Runs around $140 to $190 a year depending on the bike.

3.  Is it an ok first bike?  I have ridden many fast quads but never a motorcycle.

If you didn't have any riding experience at all, I'd say no. The F3 is more bike than I think the majority of people will need. It's a high performance motorcycle and not that far from what was once the leading edge of performance. Since you've been on quads, I think with reasonable care and judgement you'll be fine.

4.  Are there alot of modifications I can do?

I like'm stock. It increases the reliability.

5.  I've riden quads alot as I said, and the honda quads are always the most reliable.  Does the same hold true to bikes?

It's a Honda. That's all you need to know. If it's been taken care of naturally.
