I was at the big dealer expo in Indy this past weekend. Lots of new products, some cool, lots crap.

This one however caught my attention. This is the coolest new helmet product I've seen in many years. This is the first time I've gone to Indy and ordered a new product on the spot.

Electro-chromatic visor.

Intergrated rechargable battery, LED lighting, bluetooth built in the shell, tint on demand powered visors. This is cool stuff!

Its powered by a rechargable battery built in their helmets. The helmets have LED lighting built in them, and are soon to come out with an optional built in Blue Tooth headset, all powered by this battery.

These are rated the ECE rating (as required in MotoGP - higher rating than Snell).

Patman if you decide you want one of these gimme a buzz, I'll cut you a break on one if you'll write me back later and tell me what you think.

Depending on which helmet you want I can take care of you pretty well. I made a pretty sweet deal with them since I"m part of a big company with a lot of buying power.

As for a USMC one, the CFO of the company was a jarhead F-18 jock I think, so you would think that would be on his list... but I have no inside knowledge.

The plain black Specter would be $325. The shields dont come out till April/May but they retail for $199.

very nice helmet, N how can one get a helmet wit bluetooth? The website says, under the "
Akuma Introduces Fully Integrated Bluetooth" press release "This option will be available on all R series Akuma helmets. For 2008, it will only be available to Distributors/Retailers placing orders at this Trade Show." I'd buy one

and sorry, wats ECE stand for

Edit/Add: just to clarify, if someone wanted to, could they order the helmet now, and buy TOD (released April/May) later, buy bluetooth (around July), and add those to the helmet?

The bluetooth geat is assembled in the helmet when its built, and the Akuma folks say that the helmets wont be upgradable (at least to statrt with). They are still telling me May is when I might see them, and initially that will only be in the Apache R3 model.

ECE is the European equivalent of the Snell rating, but is actually a much higher spec. This is the spec that Moto GP and WSBK require their riders to have.
