I just changed oil & filter plus all coolant. Started bike warmed up took choke off and drove it 3 miles to a friends house where we were loading up the bikes for Daytona. It was probably 31 degrees and just starting to have a very light snow. The temp gauge barely got off the left side cold mark but it was warmed up enough to idle okay. While the bike was idling in neutral I heard a noise that I suspect came from the clutch area. A rattling sound. When the trans in neutral and I pull the clutch in noise disappears.  After loading the bike I restarted it and there was no noise? My friend said maybe it was just cold. Any ideas? The bike has 23,000 miles on it. Call me nervous thinking about Daytona.

If you pull the clutch in and it goes away its likely to be just normal wear and tear on the clutch basket and plates..

I had a similar noise and a lot of people on here told me it was the cam chain tensioner. I am actually planning to change mine this Saturday. It usually won't happen after the bike is fully warm, and when I would pull in clutch or put in nuetral it would stop. Also if that is the problem you should get the manual one, not the automatic oem one.

Speaking of cam chain tensioners does anyone know of a place to find some decent installation instructions for the 900rr's. I got the APE one and the instructions are pretty vague. I really don't want to mess up on the adjustments and end up ruining my cams and or chain.
