Hi Stynk. j had the same problem with the clutch rattle. goes away when revving up or when holding lever in? i found it was the springs in the actual basket where weak. this was on a 94 with 26K. picked a new complete unit up from eBay and it solved the problem. luckily this unit had new plates and friction discs as well. not a bad deal for $50 lol. check your idle as well. see if it is right or a bit low. hoing upanother 100 or so may take the rattle away. hope this helps.

I have a factory stock CCT for a 900 I replaced with a new APE and I tightened it until the sound went away and the 1/8 more...but the old one was good

quote:
ORIGINAL: stynkmonkey I want to make sure I am hearing the right noise and, not having another 900 around to compare, I don't really know what's normal and what's not. So, what I am hearing is sort of a chain type rattle noise (or like marbles in the engine) like I've read in so many CCT problem threads. Since the engine is making it's own noises it's hard to pinpoint where the rattle is coming from. I noticed that If I hold in the clutch lever just a tiny bit (just enough to take up the slack, about 3-5 mm) it seems to go away. I also hear the valves knocking some when it's cold but goes away after it warms up (which I assume is normal since it's cold) and sometimes under acceleration It sounds like the valves are knocking a tiny bit. It's not like these are way noticeable I just know my bike's noises. Does that sound about right for the cctl? My cct noise also went away when I pushed in the clutch. And it would make the noise when cold as well.
