ORIGINAL: 89ls1 So I take it the RON97 is 97octane? I still wish I only had to pay 2.20 for my fuel Thats nothing... a brand new cbr1k will cost more than USD 30k here....

Here in South Africa at the coast (Cape Town) we get 95 octane unleaded fuel. Higher up in the country (Johannesburg), they use 100 octane because of the altitude. Not a typo, really, 100 octane!!

You really should start saving up then!!! :) CJ I'm hoping to strike lottery man.... Even importing a bike is no good; you still need to pay tax..

ORIGINAL: 89ls1 That is incorrect. A higher octane fuel burns hotter and faster therby creating a more explosive combustion therby creating more power by pushing the pistons down more forcefully (torque). All a knock sensor does it detect knock and tells the computer to retard timing as to not damage the engine. Knock can be caused by bad fuel, to much timing, running to lean, running WAY to rich, hell I have even seen false knock occur due to bad motor mounts and other crazy things. This info is based of my knowledge of working on cars, but I believe it still holds true with motorcycle engines. Atleast 4cycle engines Ok I should of said more efficiently not faster, I was just typing fast at the time trying to make it as clear as possible of an explaination. As a given, higher octane fuel is designed for higher compression engines obviously.

ORIGINAL: 89ls1 I agree with you crazyhorse, it does not hold much so use the best. Thats what I use. 93 helps clean the crap out of the carbs and carbon out of the engine cause it burns hotter and faster. I always run 93 in both my cars and my bike. In my opinion the cheaper crap helps create the just in the injectors and on top of pistons and what not. You do sound like an ls1 driver, have no clue what so ever. 93 octane burns longer then 91 or 89 or 87, it only provides more power if your bike/car is set up for it, otherwise you get carbon because it doesn't burn all the way. So you were basically right, if you said exact opposite.

Or do you only read to a certain point and than think you know everything about that certain subject or conversation??

Buddy you're wrong again, the higher octane is not designed for higher compression engines, it works on lower compression engines too, if you advance timing for little more bottom end torque you also need premium, or forced induction 7-9 to 1 comp engines also make more power with high octane fuel. You're almost there. And you're right, I didn't read the whole thing, I was reading till I saw your post and you were completely wrong, I don't know why when people have no clue always try to put their 2 cents in, if you don't know, keep your mouth shut and learn from somebody that knows.

I sure hope anyone running those types of engines (FI or tons of timing) already knows they need higher octane fuel. I would think that is general knowledge.
