I did some maintenance on the bike today.

1.   I notice that there is a bunch(about 6) of connectors (singles); on the back top when you take the left side cover off, (they go to the regulator I think) are looking a bit ordinary, some black discolouration, probably due to age and moister.
I will have to clean them or replace, any suggestions, could these wires have any performance effect on the engine or are they just for the charging system?

2.   I think the rattle I have is the alternator/starter chain, can anything be done about this?

One success I had was the missing clip of the side cover that holds the screw in, I used a spring washer, stretched it using a hold punch to make it fit then got to it with pliers afterwards, tried with a normal washer behind it at first but then it would mount on the bike.

Have switch from Shell to Castrol – no special reason, my mechanic mate gets it cheaper.

The red 6 way connector goes to your regulator/rectifier.3 yellow, one blue, one white, one black. No effect on performance, but battery charging will stop if it's not clean......this I KNOW ...he he. Check the wires aren't burnt or brittle - if they are, you will have charging problems in the near future. Catch it now...

There is a primary chain tensioner for sale on e-Bay, but whether you have to remove the engine to fit it, I don't know. If the chain needs replacing, that's an engine out job. Maybe just the camchain, which can be done in the bike...?? These bikes do have camchain rattles...not normal for the primary to make much noise......
Hope this helps

When I brought the bike, it sounded like a bucket of bolts, I had the cam chain replaced, now it's half a bucket.

I will the do the wiring and radiator flush next; then pull the carbs for a clean.

Is there any danger for a rattly alternator chain or is it just noise?
