1st bike? Depending you might want frame sliders. They help save your fairings in slow accidents and incase you drop it at a light or something. Your course isn't for another few months? Shop around for insurance unless your current company (assuming) gives you a good deal. Rates can get down to $200-$300 a year liability, even for the 18-24 crowd.

Go to your local Barnes & Noble or the like and buy a book called Total Control. It will be located in the motor sports section of the sports section. It is an excellent book and will give you a lot to think about. It goes into riding techniques and hits on things like track days and even work out to make you body adjust better to riding. I will teach you a lot and will be something you will want reference later on as your skills improve.

For insurance try a company called daryland insurance. They must insure milk cows, but there rates for bikes are outstanding.

another good book is SPORT RIDING TECHNIQUES by Nick Ienatsch
Good luck, and keep the shinny side up!
