I have 63K on my 1990 and I average 41mpg overall. The best yield was while following a bunch of really old guys on Goldwings and got 51mpg. The worst was while outrunning two guys on VFR's and got 28mpg. He said he was in the mountains & that was his best mpg. I can see it as I always get better mpg when I go out west. FWIW, my 2002 ST1100A2 averages 41mpg overall and my 2005 VFR800A has an average of 38mpg.

It's your gearing, I think. Standard is 17/42, and you're running , what, 14/46.....? Huge accelleration and power, but costly in gas bills. When I ran mine on 15/42, my fuel consumption went up to around 38MPG from 45-48MPG, so quite possibly your ratios are "giving you the gears"

This guy is a lire. I sometimes use my wife's Ninja250 to go back and forth between work and home. Even I chop off the throttle, little twin engine never go more than 68 mpg. My 87 CBR got around 37 mpg. My old CB750F with way too lean setting sometimes goes 55 mpg. CBR is over jetted, unless he puts smaller jet and use under 5000rpm, CBR will never run more than 45mpg.

Careful there, Yas001, the man's entitled to voice his opinion, just as we all are, and it isn't helpful to bash people on this forum - we leave that to other forums, but not here........and just as a matter of interest, on a run the other day, travelling at a steady 85 MPH, 5300 revs, running standard gearing, I got just over 50MPG from my 90 CBR1000F, over a distance in excess of 240 miles..........does that make me a "lire" (!) as well ? I've got BIGGER jets, and BIGGER pipes, too...... Each person here is attempting to answer the question based on his own knowledge and in most cases, vast expertise, and I don't feel your response was reasonable.

Every bike is different, as is how the people ride them. My own fh has given me returns of 46mpg on several occassions and I have to report that since the rebuild I have had a 52mpg. This is riding the bike and taking my time through the gears and going easy on the throttle. Having the carbs set up right and the engine running smoothly will give a good return.

30mpg = 7.84 l/100km 35mpg = 6.72 l/100km I get nearly 300k's on main tank, if I took it easy, I reckon I would do the 300. that’s probably about 6.5 l/100km (35.19 US mpg) I was quite surprised that my CBR had more grunt and performance under 5500rpm that my mates V-Star cruiser 1100. I also have a little more range (I think I drink a little more, not much but) and I have the option of 5500-10500 rpm. US mpg is not the same a UK mpg, Apparently

I've had 300 Kilometers(182 miles) on the main tank, heading inland and climbing from the coast to 3500 ft, travelling a steady 80MPH (130 KPH) ! And I had 2x48 litre panniers and a topbox, fully loaded. Idodirt (hi Bill)got 53.6MPG (85Kilometers) on a US gallon, which is, what, 4 litres, not 4.45 as us Colonials calculate it - pretty amazing) so if Hardcorp (hi Gunny)is only getting 30MPG on a US gallon, his gearing is a problem, or he's leaking gas, or both, seems to me...Mine averages around 9.5-11.5 Miles Per L, around 15,5 -17 Kilos per liter, and I fill up at around 157 miles travelled.

Shadw1 Sorry, I didn't mean I replied to the comment before mine above. I meant the guy who put the ad on craigslits. Not forum member tho. Any way, howcan you make your CBR1000 good on gas mileage like that? My route between home and work is mostly highway and cruising speed is always below 70 mph, no race or chase. What is wrong with my bike.... Maybe here in US, becase of avarage cruising speed is much higher than Europe or other country.

Hi Yas001, No harm done........I see the post on Craig'slist has been deleted...My average speed is generally around 80 MPH, PLENTY of "race and chase", up to and beyond 150MPH, and I get the bike up to 100MPH every time I ride it - I live near a freeway and there's a 3 mile stretch where it's fairly safe to do so. I haven't adjusted my valve lash in the last 35000 miles, and I can't remember the last time the carbs were balanced !! Starts easily, runs like a train. It has non-standard big bore pipes, K&N filter and Dyno jets, otherwise standard. Maybe your choke cable is not releasing fully, making the bike run rich ? You should get better mileage.....So should I, except my electrical system keeps breaking down...

Maybe it's the fuel your using, I find the bike likes standard and 96E10 (not sure if this is a good idea). I sure my carbs are a little out of balance and I need to adjust the valves. Lately; the bike been starting really well, no choke, fires after 1/2-1 second
