Hello to everyone. I just purchaced an 01 F4i. It was originally purchaced in fall of 02 and only has 643mi on it. Oil was changed last month. It supposedly has been started and brought up to temperature bi-weekly for the last year or so. Guy hurt his knee fighting fire. Is there anything I need to look out for? Break-in porcedures? I've put the last 50 miles on it and no problems thus far. Any advice would really help.
Thanks.

well, to my knowledge, if it is 643 original miles, that means the tires didn't need to be changed by him n would still ahve the original tires on there. Since the tire is a couple of years old, it wouldn't be as soft as a normal tire should be n you might want to change it. But hoenstly, 643 original miles is kinda hard to believe. it very well could be true, but just lemme tell you how easy it really is to change the cluster on that thing. oh, n with that many miles, iexpect that there's like no road debris such as pebbles stuck to oil spots on ur wheels n such....

yo mang...that is some amazing schiznit...but could happen, friend bought an 01 with like 400 miles on it 2 years ago.
i would just be concerned with break in and the seals since he took so long to do break in. also, the bike sits but how often did he change the oil?
should be ok, but keep an eye out on it.
as far as starting the bike and bringing it to temp then turning off, not good for the bike and drains the battery. you gots to ride it!

yeah, I did notice some minor weather checking in the tires. I removed both lower fairing to check for wear/pebbles/dirt and the thing is super clean. As far as breaking the motor in, should I keep it under a certain RPM?

Changing the suspension fluid probably isn't necessary. Most people never check this over the life of a bike. It would be similar to changing the the air filter.

As far as break-in, you should be good to go. 600mi is the recommended break-in. You might consider replacing the battery and spark plugs. I'd also suggest getting started on some good synthetic oil and sticking to it from now.

Congrats and happy riding. Make sure you get some good riding gear and be safe.

yea most don't change it cause they can't really see it and such. but just like conventional oil, fork oil breaks down. you should get it swapped after every season if you're hardcore racer, or 10K/2years if you just semi-hardcore. if you ever do get semi hardcore, you'll know you need suspension work cause you'll feel the bike behave like a mofo!

your plugs should be fine, just pull them and check the gaps. if you decide not to use synthetic, make sure you change it often, like 3Ks

Thanks a bunch guys. I probably won't change the fork fluid. I will check the plugs for sure. I'm also looking at a scorpion slip on and pcIII. I watched the guy who sold it to me change the oil with Bel-Ray synthetic oil though.

ok but keep an eye out for it...cause just like oil, it breaks down.
you probably won't notice the difference but if you had the bike before and after, and rode it for like so many miles you'll know the difference.
don't change it yourself though cause...oh wait mang...check the tag to see when the bike was built. the VIN tells you when...if it's a 01, it could've been built in 00...if that's the case, the fluid just turned 6 years old...happy birthday fluid! CHANGE IT! i'm sure it's super stinky by now too. fork oil gets that way when it's old. but yours is gansta old...it's going to be some stinky foo foo stuff.
