ORIGINAL: OKIEZAC Ok.. so I got home and cleaned her up filled her with 93 and put to sleep for the night. That's as far as I got... You do know that when you fire your bike up tomorrow, your injectors will be injecting fuel of around 89 octane... right? NEVER fill up with high-octane and park it. Run that shit dry, fill it up tomorrow. Now I'll read the rest and look at your pics... ? Even the dealership was instructed by honda to use 93. And i quote from the owner of CNY Powersports Mr. Law "Your going to need to go fill that up with 93 octane and 93 octane only, Honda asks that we dont fill the tank here because we only have 89 octane and deisel" So unless you have some crazy stats to prove what you are saying i cant buy it.. not when people who are selling these bikes and dealing with them and honda all day are telling me different. prove them wrong and i will look into it further, but i have never heard that.

Well I'll try to find some resources. I just remember it from science class. Octane is reduced over time with changes in temperature and atmospheric conditions (which should be minimal since you've a brand new bike). Let me guess, you've got the bike in the garage? Where it's much warmer than outside, or more importantly, much more wamr than the underground tanks in which fuel is stored to maintain a specific temperature (cold). Ever notice that lovely feeling in the dead of summer when you fill up with fresh gas and wrap your legs around the tank? Cool gas is more dense than warmer gas.

No no no, I'm not saying to not use 93. I'm saying don't let it sit overnight. Run it almost dry before parking it, and fill up fresh each day you ride it with 93.

ORIGINAL: flashman That is a great looking bike. Did you do the paint yourself? If so that is one hell of a job. Nope.. its the OEM Honda 2007 Pearl Sunbeam White. Just swapped the fairings for the white ones. I have not seen one on the road up here in NY.. i saw one at the dealership so i know someone owns it.. but they arent very common. I just liked it more than the others. imo. i do like the orange that they did this year.. it has the same pearl sunbeam orange shit that honda is doing.. a nice flake to it as well.

That makes sense.. but i would be more worried about how it gets down to 20 @ night here and 40 during the day.. and if the tank is empty that can cause condensation.. i would rather have lower octane fuel than water in my tank... imo with a 20 degree change in temps during the day how much octane can be lost in a day or 7 ? just curious

I am not stepping into the gas topic . Just wanted to post and say OZ the bike is absolutly amazing, you did an awsome job. I was thinking of doing something black and white with mine soon, i love the colors. Dude you pulled it off stunningly.

You won't see condensation so long as your seals are great. YUour tank is pressurized, so as long as your reserve light pops on and you park it soon thereafter, there will be plenty of pressure to prevent condensation. The difference in octane is simple. In my city, it's $3.47 for 93 octane (BP), and $3.17 for 87 (BP). That's roughly around $2 give or take a tank. I guess if you've got money to throw around then it doesn't matter, lol - I'm just saying I don't I guess! Lower octane fuel has more energy in it as well - which can make for a fun blast to the gas station the next day!

Yeah - hey man, I didn't mean to get into some big thing about the gas... Just making a money-saving observation, sorry!

The fact is that fuel economy is determined by a number of variables, including the energy content of the fuel and the condition of your vehicle, neither one of which have anything to do with the octane level of the fuel. In fact, two fuels of identical octane could have different energy content due to a difference in composition.
