Ok, I have decided to replace my chain and sprockets.  From the threads that I can find here, the -1/+1 with 520 chain seems to be the most common/recommended.  The local shop is recommending a DID chain.  Before I buy this stuff, would anybody like to offer any opinions on the conversion or the sprockets or any brand names.  This is the first chain that I will have ever swapped, so I have no experience with this.  I assume that I will need a speedohealer also.  Thanks.

go +1 in back if you have an 04-05. Use the same gearing in back if you have an 06-07 (still need a new 520 sprocket). Either way, go -1 in front.

I ended up gong with DID. A speedo healer is also a good idea and fairly easy to install

I have heard some negative things about Vortex sprocket, so I deceded to stay away from them.

heard the same thing about vortex sprocket... never heard anything bad about DID, and no bad news is good news.

also while you have the rear-tire off, maybe think about powdercoating the swing-arm and rims (just a step-saver if you are going that way.. that's what im waiting for - get enough money and do it all at once)

04/05 bikes i would recommend the -1/+1.  on an 06 /07 just -1 up front,  personal preference but that is what i have on my 06.  any more would be nuts on the street, it is hard to keep the front end down now.  as for the 520.  if you really need a new chain do it if not just swap the front and call it a day.  i did mine at 2200 miles or so, front only.  speedo healers "correct" mileage issues and tell you a more accurate speed.  but they cost money, and add weight, allbeit a very small amount, and do not add power why bother.  just figure out how far you are off and lock it in memory.

AFAM or driven sprockets and DID chain is my recommendation.
