iliana is a 01 929 and runs great most of the time but sometimes the battery died out in the middle of my commute. does not happen very often but is a pia pushing her home.
i wonder why she dies so sporadically, like today, it was running fine the whole week and started fine when leaving work and all of a sudden it died half way home. had to pushed it home and it was so embarrassing when people looked at me, heck there was even this asian girl who smiled at me i bet she thought "poor thing, pushing his awesome bike home".
any thoughts?

If it's a brand new battery, my guess would be something with the charging system (alternator, regulator/rectifier).

1) Use a multimeter to check your battery voltage with the bike off. Should be between 12.3-13.2V.
2) Now start the bike and let it warm up.
3) Rev the bike in neutral to 5000RPM and measure the voltage across the battery again.

This value tells you what voltage your regulator/rectifier is putting out while the bike is running. It should be more than the initial voltage  measurement, but less than 15.5V. Report back what you find.

yeah what metalhead says, these bike have been know to suffer either regulator rectifier problems or the stator to go in them.

mine the stator died and the bike would run great until the battery died and that was it for the ride.  charge the battery same thing.

i replaced the stator and the problem went away.

now if you have the tools and the know how to test everything yourself then your in business, if not then you could spend alot of cash having someone else trouble shoot it for you but you would know what the issue is for sure.

i think my stator was like $130 from electo motorsports and the regulator would of been like the same.  i took a gamble with paying for the stator and not wasting my time with the trouble shooting cost seeing i dont have the multimeters and what not but i dont recommend this it just paid out for me.

What a perfect time to have this post.  I fully charged my battery on Sunday, rode to work on Thursday (42 miles round trip), took a nap, got ready for bike night and battery was dead.  ECM was changed about a year ago...Battery is over 2 years old, so I'm hoping that's the only problem...
