My '93 900RR Project

Uncle -> My '93 900RR Project (3/31/2008 3:34:12 PM)

I hope I don't wear anyone out, but I just got this 1993 900RR and I am really looking forward to getting her back into shape.
[image]http://i283.photobucket.com/albums/kk317/Uncle1166/CBR7.jpg[/image]
You can see the rear has been cobbled together.
[image]http://i283.photobucket.com/albums/kk317/Uncle1166/CBR4.jpg[/image]The plastics on the right are broken and/or missing.
[image]http://i283.photobucket.com/albums/kk317/Uncle1166/cbr3.jpg[/image]The left has one decent piece.
The engine is not running at this time but I hope to have it apart this week.
I just wanted to start a little photo journel as I go.
Brian

wardie -> RE: My '93 900RR Project (4/1/2008 8:20:26 PM)

I have upper cowling, fairing stay, mids and lowers for a 93-94 Cbr 900 RR. I am interested in selling would you be interested? I can send pics.

SpiritRR -> RE: My '93 900RR Project (4/1/2008 9:52:55 PM)

Yeah, projects!

Kinda looks like the entire oil pan emptied onto the foor there...

I pretty much went through a similar process, and the only way I managed was to clean as much of the bike as I possibly could. I'm not saying everyone should do this, but the satisfaction I received from massaging my bike back to working order would not have been possible without a gallon of Simple Green, water, and a dozen toothbrushes. Then again, no one but me has owned my bike, so it may be a unique requirement--but damn, it became grade A passion again when I finally put down the last rag...

And you could never wear anyone out...restorations deserve attention and care, so please post continuously in your photo journal. Thanks Uncle!

Uncle -> RE: My '93 900RR Project (4/2/2008 2:24:46 PM)

I just bought a full set from a fellow CBR Forum member.
When they arrive and I have a chance to look them over I will know better what I need.
Thanks so much for the response.
Brian

Uncle -> RE: My '93 900RR Project (4/2/2008 2:34:36 PM)

I got the engine out and on the ground.
[image]http://i283.photobucket.com/albums/kk317/Uncle1166/CBR15.jpg[/image]You can see the hole in the block where a rod made it air cooled.
[image]http://i283.photobucket.com/albums/kk317/Uncle1166/CBR16.jpg[/image]The job of pulling the engine was fairly simple, I found a post where a fellow member did a step by step. It really made it easy to follow.
I'm at a stopping point until I get the fairings in and/or find an engine.
Brian

[8D]wow! how long did it take to remove you engine and how many bolts to remove? i have 2 cbr 900 both 93 both red, white and blue but i bought 1 crashed the other is mint. i have 98 percent of the body parts all after market and updated the fairings to 97 model, however my engine will not run won't even chug when trying to start. the starter just fires. when i got the bike it had a hole in the bottom of the oil pan. when i changed it i looked in side and it looked pretty clean i saw no metal shavings or pieces. i think that it may be siezed so i may take it out and have it rebuilt if it won't cost a fortune. i am into this bike for more than i paid for the mint one. be careful  the cost can sneek up on you. good luck.

After I replaced my stator cover, I accidentally pushed the starter motor gear off of its little spindle--so the starter had no chance at all to turn the crank and get things moving. Go ahead, ask me how long it took to figure out what I had done lol. As soon as I put the gear back in place and re-applied the stator cover a little more carefully...bam, fire in the hole.

Hopefully your situation might be this simple...

sober -> RE: My '93 900RR Project (4/3/2008 4:23:13 PM)

Ok
1. find the led's make sure they are 12V
2. measure the led's for size and get a drill a smidgen bigger
3. push the led thru the holes where they just stick out and epoxy them in (Maxium 883 is what I use from evercoat)
4. Now sand em down and clear or if it is stock plastics sand them down smooth with some 600, 100, 1500, 2000 and 3000
5. buff em out
6. wire em up you will need to get a resistance ballast or the led's will either tweaker blink bad ot not at all
7. ENJOY

hows that

sober -> RE: My '93 900RR Project (4/5/2008 12:14:37 PM)

Already been working on it.  I am gonna do the rear pegs as well for the rear turn signals.  Thanks for the info (resistance ballast).  Let me know if you make any of those sweet tails?
