This past weekend I finally bought a bike again, Its a 2001 CBR 600F4i with 10500 miles. It has a custom paint job and a few small things and some exhaust work done to it which all stuff alone was over 2 grand.     If sure like everybody else new   I have some questions.    First, It seems to be a well matained bike but is there any type of maintance that I need to do with that many miles, and what would you all consider high mileage on these type of bikes?  And probably the most common question....how fast do these bikes go?

Congrats!  You need to post some pics!  If it was maintained well 10k miles is nothing on an F4i just take care of it and it will go along way! longer than most other bikes i would say.  I havent topped out my f4i but i have heard people doing over 160mph on theirs with no modifications...  but 10,500 miles its got ALOT of life left!  Now post some pics!

First of all

Great choice of bikes to get back into things. Like everyone else has stated, 10k is nothing for these bikes. Just do your normal maintenance like oil, chain cleaning/adjusting and such.

Just keep in mind that when 16k comes around you will have a pretty big service needed. Nothing serious if you know how to turn wrenches.

Do some searching and you will find a ton of info here.

Post up some pics when you get a chance.

INstead of repeating everyone else's I am just going to say "Ditto"

DOn't worry how fast your bike goes...worry about being safe, learning how to drive proper and watching out for those idiots :)

MOST of all ENJOY it!

welcome

Dont worry about how fast the bike goes. It'll beat a lamborghini lp640 in 0-60 times, if you ride it right. it'll also take you faster than your free fall velocity (i.e. the fastest you would go if you jumped from a plane, due to air resistance). Don't try anything like that though :P
It's usually the rider that limits performance when it comes to bikes... most of all, always ride within your limits. if you dont survive then you dont get to ride!

So what type of maintance do I need to do around 16000 miles?  I'm not to bad at working on cars but I haven't done to much with a motorcycle.

ya you don't even have to worry about that being high miles my buddy's dad has and 01 f4i and he has 30k on his and still runs with the pack. and as for top speed I've done 186mph but I've done alot of mods. but a average f4i will do 160mph. but congrats. have fun!

if this is your 1st bike then your last question should be "how fast does it go?"

need to learn the brakes and get good w/ countersteering b4 you can go for max-speed, which is according to Honda around 160mph.... this is my 2nd bike and I have about 6k miles under my belt b/w my old bike(95 YZF600) and the 2 I rented when I was in Vienna(06 CBR600F for a day and 500km and 07 ZX6R for a weekend and 1k km) and so far the fastest I've done was 200... km/h... which translates to 124mph but that was on the Austrian Autobahn which has a limit of 130 and most ppl drive around 160(~100mph)... thankfully I didn't try the German Autobahn, which of course, has NO speed limit

either way, good to see you joined the club around the same time as I did, now it's time for both of us to master our bikes and hope to see you at the track someday

Welcome,
Yes thats low miles for a 01. just remember to take care of it. change oil every 3000 miles, watch your slack on the chain, and replace brake pads when needed. don't worry about how fast they go. (it's fast) I think you should try babby steps! no joke.. there is need to go kill yourself to just to see how fast it can go! I Recommend riding with more experienced riders, and hit up the track a few times so you can see what your bike can do. and then start pushing the limit.
Pics are good.

I think the 16,000 is a valve adjustment.
I haven't done mine yet. 18000, still runs great.

laters.

I am new to the Honda F4i but I am not new to riding, I am very aware of the risks at stake when I ride. Before this bike I had a ninja for around three years so I'm not stupid on them.

good to hear that you've got experience was your ninja a 250/500/650?

it's just typical for us to react with "watch out, be safe" as 1) we don't want to hear of another fallen rider, 2) more fallen riders = higher insurance

as far as mileage, I got the YZF w/ 29k and didn't have to do any major maintenance in the 7 months I had it, also had a 1yr warranty w/ it though as I got it from a dealer and only issue I had was the gasket on the bottom of the tank went bad and had to make a make-shift gasket to get the bike back down to Champaign for the dealer to do it... was a rude wake-up call when I get to the bike in the morning and there's a huge puddle of gasoline on my driveway

the spokesman for high-mileage on here is thirdgenlxi... 121k and counting as well as 386k+ on his 89 Accord!!!!

also it's scary that I'm acting like an "experienced" member and I've only been on here for 4 days... I guess it's the 7+ yrs I spent posting on 3si.org as well as other various boards that brings that out in me

Another question,  I've seen the guy I bought my bike from pop off the back seat to get into the little compartmeant under it. But I guess I didn't pay enough attention when he did it because I can't seem to figure out how to get it off so can anybody help me out?
