Hey guys I got a 01 929 Erion edition, my first 929. I have two problems i'm hoping you guys can help me out with. The first one, "head shake". Mine is really really bad, hit the bars alittle and it feels like bike is going to come out from underneath me. Will a stabalizer solve that, and what one do you guys recomend. The second problem, is a weird sound. It sound like something is loose at 3,700-4,000rpm, but i've taken the tank and air box off and cant find anything loose. any ideas? Thanks for the inputs

Congrats, and welcome to the club. We hope your stay will be long and happy. Part 1: Yes a steering damper will help and "any" will do. I have a Sprint and it works very well. Others have had good experience with Scotts, Ohlins, Arrow, and others. In part it will depend on your budget and the bling factor you are after. Want a 916-style or a steering head style? Then go from from there based on what you want to spend (expect to pay $300 - $700) Part 2: Loose fairing? Or plastic in the fairing? Mine had "lost" some of the little screwy-clippy things inside the fairing and rattled badly (since fixed). Is the noise more mechanical? These puppies are notoriously noisy...

Maybe the bearings in the headtube are loose, get the front end off the ground somehow and see if there is any play.

Yeah, I second the stabilizer! I got a used Scotts and I love it!! I'm glad you brought up the rattle too. I've noticed mine has the same buzz around 4-5K rpm. I just haven't spent much time to research it.....

I didn't read the buzz comment but yea mine has that also. It's a pain in the a$$. I was going to get a clip but never took the time to do it yet. Did that seem to cure the buzzing?

If you say you a "really really bad" head shake problem it may be the neck bearings or a problem with the front end. I wouldnt just slap a sterring damper on, inspect the front for any play , Then look into adding a damper

Stearing head bearings are a common problem on 929/954's. I believe they may have even had a recall on those also...Steering stabilizer will make u fall in love all over again. Ever since i bought my $150 Scotts for my 929 and my 954, i'll never ride another bike without a stabilizer...It makes a world of difference and makes you feel like you have more control.....Mine has saved my azz a few times....=-)

you should get a damper, but you shouldnt have head shake all the time unless somethings wrong. as far as the buzzing noise do you have the stock exhaust valve still on? they are known to make noises at certain rpms.

I beleive they are the stock valves, and the bike has 16,000 miles. The noise is buzzing kinda sound......but only around 3,700-4,000 rpm, anything over or under and she sounds fine.
