DOT Helmet Results 2000 - 2005

Seeing as this is a hot topic on the boards lately, take a look at the DOT helmet test results and see if the helmet you want made the grade.

I just bought one Monday. I read the full report, it looks like the helmet underperforms DOT standards at Low Temperature only. I emailed Scorpion asking for their official response to the NHTSA report. Let's see if they reply.

Personally I think our gov't should take a more active role in DOT labeling. I read somewhere that when a mfg. puts a DOT label on a helmet, that it is NOT policed by any governing body. The EXO-700 helmet has a SNELL label on it, and they DO test. Let's hope that its not forged (doubt it).

Here's the reply I received from Scorpion on the EXO-700, if anyone's interested:

First of all I want to thank you for your concern. We value the safety in our helmets. There was one test given at which the Scorpion Helmet failed a below freezing test. Given the fact that the helmet could have been jeopardized by any non-related factors. DOT as well as Scorpion began to re-test the helmet. Over and over again we tested and passed.
DOT grated there approval on our helmet. Please keep in mind that if our helmet was not safe for any reason there would be a re-call. I have attached a letter along with the DOT response to this matter. Once again thank you.

They also included a link to a reply from SNELL regarding their testing standards, which is located at:

Additionally, they enclosed a response from the NHTSA (see attachment)
