im buying my first sportbike, there is an 02 yzf 600r and an 03 cbr f4i in the area, both are farely low miles, and both are priced pretty good, the yzf has less miles and is priced a little higher...based on just the bikes why should i take the cbr over the yzf

well, asking that questions on a CBR forum is going to get you a biased answer....but I will say get the 600R just to be different...lol

Eventually the YZF will have valve and timing chain problems.  The CBR will only maybe have the timing chain tensioner lifter problem, which is an easy fix.  Yamaha engines are notorious for sucking the valves up in the head, eventually causing engine failure.  Also weak clutch basket scatter problems.  But like the previous guy said, opinion may be biased.  I will buy anything if I can make money on it, but I will only keep Hondas.  I have a 1998 VFR800 which is my permanent fixture.  The CBR is a great, reliable bike though.  I have an '02 in my garage right now.  Loads of fun in the corners.

yea i just got my bike in january, and my friend also got him an 01 f4i about 2 weeks ago... and i am VERY happy with this bike.
i cant imagine another bike being better really.
they seem decently comfortable to me, ive went on a few 2 hour+ rides and ive never reallyfelt uncomfortable or anything.
i also think appearance wise they look better.  the R6's are my second fav. looking sport bike, but i love the split seat and headlights on the 01-03 f4i.
like it was said before it may be a biased opinion being on a CBR forum, but i cant imagine being any happier with my bike.
and also you get to be a member on the coolest, most helpful forum ever if you get the cbr, lol

Now that is funny.  When looking at bikes I kept going back and forth one these exact two bikes.  Honestley the thing that made my mind was the fuel injection on the F4i.  I don't want to have to synch carbs, or rejet because I bought a slipon.  The thundercat has a very loyal following though, I don't think you will go wrong with either bike.. But I LOVE my f4i.

That is good to know. I had no idea the YZF had issues. I almost bought an 02 R6 before I got my F4i, but found out they have issues too. Clutch seems to have problems and is costly to fix.

From what honda502 stated about the YZF and from my biased view, go with the F4i. I love mine.

I would say honda. I know a few people with Yamaha's and they aren't as reliable.

Yeah, you really gotta be careful when asking a question like that on a CBR forum....that is like asking Giants Fans what team they like best......

CBR drivers get laid more...and isn't that the real reason to get a bike?

Good luck on your choice, ride safe.

I'm on the same boat as you aaronpasko. This local dealer has a 2003 F4I and a 2000 R6, the R6 is like half a grand cheaper but my friend tells me that CBR's are hard to ride. He said something bout the top being heavy or something.

Learn on something besides a 600cc sportbike. After a year of riding, then you'll know what to get.
