The bike I have was dropped by its last owner and has a few scratches that really can't been seen unless your within 10 feet of it. I was thinking of trying to match the paint of the bike and just lightly going over the scratches with a small brush to just cover it up. Has anyone done this to their bike and would reconmend it? The scratches aren't deep at all so im sure I don't have to sand anything ( I hope ).

Thats basically touchup, it looks ok unless you are on top of it looking at it.You can also touchup the scratch, let it dry good, then lightly wet sand with 600+ grit n buff it out.

600 is way way way too rough. you should be using 2k and higher. I have a thread in DIY on how to do it right.
