So I have own my bike for about a week now and its time for me to get some riding gear. I have been looking around but there are so many different brands so I'm not really sure what is good. I know the kind of what I want, this might sound kind of stupid but if any of you all have watched biker boys thats what I want. A leather jacket but not a heavy duty one, its a thin one with maybe a few pads in it.....so any help

this might sound kind of stupid Dude, the whole idea of getting on a contraption like a motorcycle and riding on the same roads with soccer moms in SUVs is stupid, I mean half of them are on Xanax and the other half have remote control vibrators going so they are really even paying attention to the road, so don't feel bad about the questions or the reference to 'biker boys'.. Make sure you get good gloves, and as far as leather, thicker is better, but in Florida where I am, I have a perforated leather jacket with pads and it is wearable even in this heat (most of the time). Either way, you have to try them on, my jacket bought mailorder, kinda pokes my neck when I ride so it isn't ideal.

I just bought a nice Honda racing jacket from new enough for 214.00. It is red and white, I dont know what colors your bike is. As far as leather goes, the usual is about 1.3 to 1.5 mil. I own Icon leathers and a Joe rocket leather and textile. I have the Icon Persuit jacket, which is perforated leather. At Newenough.com it is on closeout for 180. You can find some good deals over there depending what you are looking for. Gloves are also essential, as the natural instincts in a fall are to catch yourself with your hands. I went down with Icon Tarmac gloves. The leather is a bit thin to begin with, then after a season of riding it gets whooped out and a bit thin. It tore right down the glove, but my hands were okay. The most neglected pieces of gear are boots and pants, both are important. Good sturdy over the ankle boots will keep your ankles supported in a tumble. I think another good piece of safety gear is a good belt. I have one with two rows of metal grommets in it. It is leather and pretty thick. If you go down in regular pants with a belt on, it will give your waist a bit of protection. Get some gear. Make sure it fits well. Most importantly, wear it every time. All the leather and padding in the world doesnt matter if it rides up on your back or arms. If the forearm pads are not snug to your body and are not where they need to be when your body impacts the ground, then they are useless. Not all gear is for protection from the asphalt. If where you live can get chilly or wet, get some good layers of warm clothing and a rain suit. You may not think it is that bad, but when you start to shiver and shake, it saps you of energy and concentration.

I think someone needs to link him a crash and what happens to someone who has a "thin" crappy jacket that he's describing. Once you see what will happen to your skin you'll go get a nice thick leather one. If heat is an issue get a perforated leather jacket like fish said.
