Hey guys.  My buddy and I are trying to figure out a problem with a 2003 CBR F4I.  The FI light came on, and it stays lit after I turn the bike off.

If I recall correctly the light wasn't on when I was riding today only when I turned the bike off and it stays solid red when the ignition is off and the keys are out of the ignition.  I took the seat off and disconnected the negative on the battery (don't want it to kill my battery).  I checked the fuses, and couldn't find any blown fuses...

Anyone run into this before?  The speedometer is not working (the digital gauges) - could it have something to do with that?
Any help is greatly appreciated.

might wanna carefully check the wiring harness leading up to the dash and look for rubbed/bad wires

might as well. Its the easist way to start looking. Doesnt take too long. I'd start by concentrating around the forks and look to see what wire bundles move when you turn the handlebars left and right. Maybe something slipped and is rubbing the forks or triple tree.

The other thing would be to figure out how to read what the FI code is. Not sure if thats something you can do yourself or if it requires a special tool.

download this, its eh service manual for 01-03. Check around section 5, it explains the FI procedure to look for codes, as well as everything else you might wanna know about the bike.

Well I seem to have another problem now.  Hooked everything back up and now when I turn the bike on and flip the switch, the fuel pump doesn't kick in.

You mean you dont hear the noise it usually makes? If thats the case, make sure the fuel pump plug isnt loose, thats the loudest part of the FI system.

See if that manual says anything about it as well.

i think so yeah. The manual I gave you should tell you. Just follow to fuel hose from the fuel tank and see where it goes.

Well here is where I am now.

I have a bike in peices on my garage floor.

The bike will turn over, there is power to all the lights ect.

If I turn on the kill switch I do not hear the fuel pump engage.  I checked the connection underneath the fuel tank and the connection looks fine.

I don't know where else to go from here...

:(

If I am reading the manual correctly its saying I need to have the engine on for the codes to flash.  I can't get the fuel pump to work to get the engine on to get the codes it looks like.

doesnt need to be running.

Ignition Off, short the diag connector under the seat, ignition to On, run/stop to Run. the light should start blinking if it has a code.

How do you short the Diagnostic connector?

I have a pocket electrical tester, has the red and black prongs with the sharp tips.  Will that work?  It looks like it tests a number of different things.
