So I got stranded again and took my battery to get it tested and they said it''s okay, just needs to be charge.

So I think my regulator stopped again.  I''m going to test it tomorrow

So my regulator died on Sept 6.  With the engine on at 3k+ rpms it was only at like 12volts.  I bought a new regulator off ebay for 110 dollars and got on the 16th.

IT DIED AGAIN TODAY

11.8 volts over 3k+rpms.

Why do I go through so many regulators?????

Read or re-read all advice here
http://www.cbrforum.com/m_637703/mpage_1/key_/tm.htm#637782

Additionally, remember if you have the correct R/R for the year of your bike then the reason R/R usually fail is because too much (electrical current) is being demanded of them. This is ussually
  1. a faulty battery or
  2. other electrical drain ( check with amp meter ).

So if the bike shop sold me the wrong battery would that kill my regulator?

I though all battery were basically the same, just the physical size, the cranking Amps, and terminal placement

Had a 1kf that chewed up regulators at a rate of one a month. After mucho head scratching and mucho denero it turned out to be a damaged rotor in the alternator/generator.  Not an easy fix, hence why a good mechanic friend fixed it, but hasnt missed a beat since - so i''m told as i sold it to the mechanic who uses it as his daily commuter.

Mine ate 4 reg/recs before I located the problem - the stator coils had burnt, and over time this causes the reg/recs to burn out. I replaced the stator, and all was well.

Im going through the troubleshooting guide right now and it says, "Disconnect the blockconnector to the generator closet to the engine.  This connect must have atleast three Yellow wires in it or two extra ones."

What is a blockconnector or generator?

Wow Shadow 4 regulators? I''m already at about 200 dollars for 2 :(

I got the ohms from the 2 wires on the alternator connected.  It was between 3.0-3.3.  The options on the flow chart are for between 4-6 or under 3 or over 10.  Should I go with under 3?

Im following the charging fault manual and im at

"The fieldwinding in the generator or the brushes to the rotor are at fault.  If there are any brushes inside the generator, discconect them and measure the resistance between the two copper sliprings on the rotor.  These are the rings on which the brushes run. (If there are no brushes inside the generator, replace the fieldwinding or if thats not possible seperately, replace the whole stator and return to Start.)"

I''ve taken the cover off of the generator per the Owner''s Manual but don''t understand what continuity im supposed to test with it off

You need to test the resistance in the field coils - mine was only slightly down, and it cooked the reg/recs.
I had two of my reg/recs exchanged under warranty.
www.electrex.uk - carries a full 12 month warranty !
Very good people.....

Are the field coils in the generator cover?  I took of the cover and there is some copper around the edges and in the middle.

Am supposed to test the continuity right? I just don''t know what field coils, or brushes are.
