I've got a '94 900RR and I'm about to get a new exhaust but while looking the bike over I started thinking of re-working the system and have the can go under the seat/tail and out by the tail lights. Seems like the tail section is big enough for this, if I remove the trunk but I'm not sure if it's even possible to re-route the pipe that way. Any thoughts? Anyone done this before?

Yes it can be done.  I saw in another forum a company sells the kit, but the guy had to fabricate some items and was very unhappy with money spent on it.  It did look good in the pictures and it was dual pipe out the rear.  somebody else fabricated one and it looked good.
Good luck

Yes you can as a matter of fact I almost did it but I lovves me some trunk space.

you have to jetcoat or wrap the pipe by the rear shock

I have a 600 F3 with undertail exhaust. I have seen plenty of 900's with undertail exhaust. Some owners that do this mod run the pipes up from the mid pipe along the outside of the swingarm. I have seen bikes that run the pipe on the inside between the swingarm similar to the CB600 and CB900. The 900RR is perfect for this method of running the pipes because their is plenty of space available. So check it out. Here are some example picture of a 600 F2 along with some other models, and I am sure you can set up your 900RR the same way. I would use this method in conjunction with finding a cheap set of pipes on ebay.

If you have any old issues of TWO WHEEL TUNER laying around check out the NOV 07 issue. Inside you will see a yellow custom 1993 CBR 900 RR with a custom undertail exhaust. If I had a scanner I would scan the image but I don't sorry.

exz5string,

I have an wolf undertail exhaust system on my 29 and love it, sounds down right NASTY!!!!! They don't come cheep, unless you do one up yourself, or know someone with a pipe bender and can do some tack welding until you have it up and then weld it up grind it down and send it for coating or chroming.....

+1 from Ghusar as he said you will need to do some coating under the tail.

Here is the link to Wolf undertail exhaust yes they can do up just about any sport scoot

I would stay away from this mod unless you have the Single Sided Swing arm conversion.  I built an undertail system on my 95 using a Leo Vince can last year and used it all summer.  I ran the pipe in between the rear shock and swingarm with about a 1/4 inch of room to spare either side.  The system worked well and sounded great but I found that with hard riding the side loads on the rear suspension would cause the shock spring to rub the exhaust and thats not something you want.  Also, the seat gets a lot hotter than you would think, plus the battery is just too damn close.  Keep your life simple bro, its more trouble than its worth.

Looks good though, nice job. One concern I did have was the heat factor, I can definately imagine it gets hot, did you add any heat barrier on the underside of the plastics? The Wolf systems i looked at cost way to damn much, if I was to do it, I'd do it myself.

Thanks dude.  You'de be right about the heat...it sucks.  Its not like your ass is burning but I could feel it after about 40 minutes through my corbin seat.  Plastics never had a problem with the heat, the battery box on the other hand started to melt a bit and that really worried me because the battery cannot deal with thatkind of heat.  That coupled with the shock spring rubbing made me rethink the setup and I went with a SS2R this season just to save the headache.  I wrapped the whole deal with the fiberglass header wrap and you could touch the pipe while the bike was running it was all just too tight.  If you don't have a single sided swing arm your only going to waste your energy, take my advice.  Go with a regular system or if you want something trick get a GP short tip.  Good Luck.

I did an undertail exhaust last summer and I haven't had any problems.  I took a full two brothers exhaust and ran it right up the middle, of course I had to cutom cut and weld.  I modified the battery box a little and put some high temp rubber in and around it to protect the battery.  I also painted the pipe with ceramic paint and I haven't noticed the seat any hotter than it normally is.
