So yesterday was kinda hot when I went riding, especially with a backpack, but today SHEEEEEET it was around 95 or so and retarded hot.  i won't ride without my jacket no matter how hot it is (unlike a few years ago where i'd only wear a jacket if it was cold), but my jacket is just too heavy for the weather that's ahead of me as summer approaches.  what do you guys wear that's nice and lightweight, but has good protection?

I have a Joe Rocket textile that has zip off sleeves that is pretty cool, It is much cooler than my leather, but still pretty hot. On real hot days I wear the Icon field armor, which is like a vest of sorts for some torso protection. Really doesnt do much for the arms though.

i don't want to trump anyones answer but even up here in Canada the summers are fkn hot, 30C+. I refuse to wear textile. Nothing protects like leather and inserts. It may be heavier but most good jackets have vents in non-contact areas.  Not to be a preacher but better safer than roadrash. I own both but never wear the Joe rocket textile i got with my CBR. If you're riding and not stop-and-starting (aka posing), leather isn't that bad.

I live in lower NY, all I have is stop and start, and I have three jackets and an armor vest.

think what he is saying, if your are out riding, not crusing down town, perforated n vented leather works great. Nothing works in stand still traffic (except a cage w/ AC ), and believe it or not your body is cooler covered fully than not in the sun.

Mesh. As long as you keep moving it's almost like riding in a t-shirt.

in hot weather perforated leather is still hot as hell....but I wear my leather jacket up until its about 90 degrees before I switch to my mesh jacket

and +1 mesh is like riding in t shirt when you are moving, its not going to protect like leather, but had a buddy go down a few months back in a mesh jacket @ around 50mph and didnt get any rash....although the jacket was torn to shit...it still did its job

I wear my perforated leather year round. It's tolerable when riding on the freeway. Which is what I do most of the time. The only time it gets hot is when I'm at a stop. Actually, my gloves give me the most heat.

Joe Rocket Alter Ego 2.0

It's the most versatile jacket I could find and does an amazing job in almost any climate. Comes with waterproof liner or can be converted into a mesh jacket by removing (part of) the outer textile layer.
