So I got my gauges Saturday and I got them installed today just before some trail riding.  So far I like them and the mount, though temporary, is a great location.  I dumped it pretty good today (muddy as hell!), and the cluster didn't move!

It was pretty simple to install, just a bunch of little stuff, overall a neat project.  The temp sensor is a wire-feed bras ring that replaces the spark plug washer, the speedometer and odometer are magnetic.  The sensor is installed by drilling into the caliper (yeah, wasn't terribly happy about it but it's all good, 1/8" hole), and secured with a self tapping screw.  The magnet is a bolt that replaces the stock rotor bolt.  The RPM readings are achieved by simply wrapping a wire (runs to cluster) around the spark plug coil.  Pretty cool!

It even has a shift indicator (left amber LED and max RPM indicator (right red LED).  Took about 2 hours (plug was a BITCH!).

Lemme know what ya think!  Fenders and moto kit arriving this week - project "completion" by Friday!

Cool Cool.  I want to see the finished product for sure.  It would not be a good idea for me to have a motard bike on the street because i can wheelie a 4 stroke dirt bike like crazy.  I would get a ticket in the first few days LOL!

Yeah the wheelies make it tough.  Soo easy and you can just hang out on one wheel all day long.

4-stroke single cylinders FTW!

Grrr... tracking numbers haven't changed since Saturday.  Damn I'm impatient.

Does the caliper change when you put on the larger rotor? Or is it just the mounting that changes?

Nah it's a billet relocator.  I've seen two possibilities of what the new (320mm - DANG that's big for dirt!), rotor could be and I'm hoping it's the wave rotor.  Looks trick as all get down.

P.S.  I ended up finding an 03 450R rear fender with plate light/holder, tail light and turn signals at the last minute.  I went ahead and grabbed it instead of the KTM fender, as this should bolt right up.

CBRCRF, you got some old wheels laying around?  Don't need hubs or spokes as I plan on replacing them if I can find a decent set of wheels.  I'm rocking 18" out back and 21" up front.  What are the 250's?  I'm guessing pretty similar.

I'm really on the hunt for some 16" front and rears.

Sorry. Im still rocking my stockers. All my dough is going to the CBR. I do have a buddy that has spare wheels and spokes. But I doubt he will part with them for free. My CRF is 21 front and 19 rear.

Wouldn't ya know it...

So I've been checking tracking numbers off and on all day.  At around 530pm the USPS site says my camshaft had been delivered at 9 this morning... so someone has probably opened it, wondering what was inside, messed around with it, let their kids play with it... blah blah blah I get to wait another week or so to get the thing installed.

Haven't been able to talk with the USPS but apparently yes, it's been delivered somewhere else.  At least that's what the delivery confirmation number says...

So after all was said and done I check my mailboax today and there sat my missing package.  The top flap had been worked over pretty good, someone was trying to thumb around and see what was in it.  When they failed, they must have brought it to my house.

Anyway, the cam was undamaged and I'm getting ready to go out and start fiddling with some stuff.  I'm going to shoot some video of the bike idling before and after just to kind of be able to compare them back to back.  Front fender didn't show up, grrr.

Oh well, if I've got parts sitting around that means I'm behind.  I'll take some pics of the cam swap I guess, not sure anyone cares about a cam...

Alright, got a quick question...

Getting ready to install the cam.

OEM valve clearances (lash) are;

Intake: 0.0032-0.0048
Exhaust: 0.0042-0.0058

Racing cam clearances are;

Intake: 0.004
Exhaust: 0.006

So... I just adjusted the valves the other night with a buddy.  They weren't bad, but we adjusted them to within spec.  And we stayed on the low-side so intake is about .004 and exhaust is about .005 - so here's my question...

Everything seems to be just a bolt-on, literally, at this point.  I was expecting to adjust the valves for the new cam but it would appear that I'm already at target lash.  Any input on this possible myth?

The only reason I'm even asking I guess is because my feeler gauges are too thick, they start at .008.  So anyway, just kind of curious if this is somewhat normal or maybe just an anomoly in which I'm being paranoid (and impatient).

I really shouldn't go out in the garage to do this because I know I'm going to fire it up when I'm done...
