Which oil to use!??

egdcbr600rr -> Which oil to use!?? (4/28/2008 9:46:32 PM)

About to do my first oil change on the bike (minus the 600 mile service done at Honda)

Which oil is a great choice?

Honda says to just use their oil (duh) but what about synthetics- I am a M1 synthetic junky for my car, is there an equivalent for the bike?  Or is there something else that has great performance for you guys?

I will stick with the stock Honda oil filters for the life of the bike just to play it safe.

i use Mobile 1 MX4T, or Racing 4T, they are the same pretty much. anything from a reputable brand that says it is for motorcycles should work well though

Shell Rotella-T Synthetic 5w-40 (blue container, not white), $16 / gallon at Wal-Mart.

Here is a link if you want to read more about this oil--> click

I prefer this over Repsol Synthetic and it is a lOT cheaper!

[sm=lol.gif][sm=lol.gif][sm=lol.gif] that made me laugh after leaving my 10 page comprehensive physics final just a second ago.

as someone else said, reputable brand and a synthetic made for motorcycles, i dont think you can go wrong. as for me, ive got Motul in at the time.

I use Amsoil Synthetic for motorcycles.

synthetics before a motor is broken in eh?

interesting selection...

You're right Tahoe. This is only my second year with my bike, and I bought it used, but my buddy has just bought a brand new Suzuki and I remember hearing the dealer tell him to run regular oil through the bike untill it has been broken in. After the break in period he said run whatever you like, regular or synthetic.

Thanks for catching that one Tahoe.

i'd stick with dino for at least up to 4K. problem with synthetics is that it works too good...get a 16K bike running all synthetic since 500 mile (supposed break in period) and find that the engine is the same as if it was never broken in...

egdcbr600rr -> RE: Which oil to use!?? (4/29/2008 11:47:44 AM)

Wait, Tahoe-
So I now have 3800 miles on it...thats past the break in period- so am I good to go with Syn now?
I think you are saying its ok...just clarify please
thanks mate

Tahoe SC -> RE: Which oil to use!?? (4/29/2008 3:21:26 PM)

muahahah...IDK...
i definitely wouldn't do it at 500...but for high revving bikes...i THINK 4k is good...but if you want to be safe, you can wait until 8K...but it's all up to you!!! it's not going to hurt the bike any to wait longer...and not to wait that long, you won't notice the difference either you know?

so...it's up to YOU...and your badass bike...07rr baby........

I switched at 6000. The guy at the Honda dealership didn't want to sell me sythetic until then.

TBFGhost -> RE: Which oil to use!?? (4/29/2008 4:41:01 PM)

Mobil One 15w-50 will work as well, you don't need to run MX4T.  I use M1 15w-50 from Wal-Mart with a Mobil One M1-110 filter...
