I'm new to street riding and I have a question or two about gloves for the street. First, I'm all about protection...so I'm leaning more toward the 2008 SP1 gloves because of their length, overall protection and modest price. As far as comfort goes, I think I may like the Alpinestars Maze or Alloy, but they're shorties. 90% of my riding will be within city limits and 60mph or slower. A random trip 30 miles away on the interstate at 70-75mph will happen a few times a month. Summer's coming and it's typically 85-95 degrees with low humidity. Which is more practical (price isn't an issue) for my type of use? I'm receiving my bike soon so I need to have my gear before I get it. :) Thanks for the advice!

i'll be honest....i have a pair of teknic violators i got for xmas...they are a BITCH to put on over my leather because gauntlets now are not made as big or as long...so it's not fun putting them on...i also have a pair of Jordan street gloves (joe rocket i think)....that i had before my gauntlets and are broken in nice......

i live downtown in Chicago and have just gotten confident enough to take the bike out of the city and try my hand at hitting twisties hard...here is my rule of thumb....

in the city...casual driving, i am not going to hassle with my violators (my "riding" gloves)....for just tooling around in the city and hooking up, i wear the JR gloves (my "street" gloves)...

so that being said....i think you'd be well served to have both...but that's just me.....i really need to break in my violators as i KNOW that makes a HUGE difference...my street gloves are super comfortable....the riding gloves are much more protection and much better overall, but right now they are so stiff and a pain to work with, i don't want to battle with them for a 20 minute or 45 minute ride...when i go out for a few hours...i will break them in...IF they get easier to deal with, no brainer i will wear them....but until then...street for easy riding, riding for the REAL riding days....

by the way...good gaunlets will have good ventilation so they won't be that bad in the summer....besides that...more protection is always desirable...just have to make sure it doesn't hinder your ability to ride...

+1 I have Teknic Lightnings 05 models (gauntlets), and a pair of icon super duty's (shorties). 99% of the tyme I wear the Tecknics, just much better protection and to me more comfortable.
