I just ordered new fairings for my F3 so, I called a paint shop and they said I would be looking at $1000 to $1200 to get it painted.

Is is just me or does that seem rediculously high?

its kinda high man, especially just for scuff and paint - when you order new fairings they are just in primer (i'm assuming these are after market) so all they have to do is be prepared to be painted - when you start getting into repairs, plastic welding, body filler and things like that then it gets REALLY expensive. and dont forget about what type of paint you use - sometime that makes ALL the difference.

but also it depends on what kind of shop you go to and how they treat you - if you are going to some high end shop that does a great job then it might be worth it - but just be careful - you might go to some beat ass shop who doesnt even use a pint booth and they might just be charging you full retail -

just get a few different quotes from places and ask about type of paint and how it reflects the price

good luck!!!

yeah it depends on quality....i have gotten quotes from bike shops to do mine with some custom work....and paint things like vent covers, mirrors, etc...i got quoted at almost $2500...but that was for a full custom with a bunch of other stuff...but that is from a place that does bikes....sportbikes specifically and can also touch any minor imperfections in the fairings...so bottom line...it depends....

Just do it yourself, It's not that hard. For 300 you can get paint, supplies, new compressor/spray gun.

DIY?!?  hahahahahahah

seriously - either bucks up and pay the 1200 for some type of custom job or if your fairings are messed up then just buy new ones

its almost mid may - you'll give your shit to some shop and they"ll ****in tie your bike up for 2 weeks if they are lazy

For a "OEM Finish" paint job, that's actually a spot-on price. For that price, it should come out looking like it was bought that way. Cheap paint jobs (sub $700) seem to look "tacky" or "sticky" in appearance......like it's almost dry, but not quite.

Captain Slow recently painted his bike blue......and it cost him $350. It looks and even feel sticky. For $350, it's not bad, but it's FAR from an OEM finish.

I had a buddies brother paint mine and it didn't look too bad.  I paid 300 or 400 and he already had the viper blue paint and the white I bought pearl powder for the white so in certain light it changed colors.  If your not looking for a perfect and spotless paint job try finding someone local and see their other work.  Just make sure you know what your getting before hand and not afterward.  Maaco painted my bumper on my car and decided that bubbles were part of imperfections and did a shotty paint job on my bumper I took into them and paid 202 to paint.  I'd steer clear from them even though they are cheap.  My plastics weren't primered either, he had to remove the red that was on the bike and repair some imperfections on the plastic.  Having a new set of plastics already primered shouldn't be a terrible amount of money.  I'd say up to 6-800 as long as your not looking for for a flawless finish.

1000 seems right. anything lower will look good from far but far from good. orange peel and very cheap paint and clear will be used.
