Help me understand something. This maybe a stupid question! Gearing does it change the rpm at bp. What I mean is I have a 06 cbr 1000 stock gearing 2nd gear 70-80 mph my rpms are around 4 or should I say between 4 and 41/2. Now if I was to gear my bike -1 in the front and plus 1 in the back(15-43) would that change my speed and rpms. If it did guessing by how much.

2nd gear at 70 or 80 only at 4 1/2 rpm? That doesn't sound right.

On stock gearing I was in 6th gear @ 80mph hitting 5 rpm
-1 +2 same gear and speed I hit 6 1/2 rpm (adjusting for speedo being off by 10mph cause of gear change)

what? you must have your facts wrong - i have a 06 1Krr and 2nd gear (stock) 4K rpm is 45mph's... 70-80 mph in 2nd is 7-8K RPM's..

so unless someone upped the teeth on your front sprocket, i think you might have your facts wrong.. But anyways, yeah -1 +2 is the best bet on gearing your bike for riding/wheelies.

usually 520 conversion kit is what you would like to do (stock 06's have 525 chains and sprockets) this will reduce about 1.06lb's off the chain and sprockets which is less mass rotation on your bike. pretty much all the gearing does is increase horsepower and torque but reduce max MPH's... instead of shifting from 1st to 2nd at 50mph's, you will probably shift around 30mph's. (not from experience, this is from information i've read over other boards and sites..I still haven't taken that plunge for my conversion because of money)

-1 +2 on the 06's is the best bet, anything more would become a stunt bike and anything less you wouldnt feel more of a change..

^ Vermino drop one tooth in the front sometime and tell my you dont notice a huge differance. Its a lot more then you think, and actually my preffered gearing (opinion of course), bear in mind i am not a lot guy either. The other nice thing is going -1 in front will only cost ya about 25-30 bucks.

well the +2 in the back reduces the huge gain in torque. but yes, you would probably know more then me because you've done the mod where i've just read up and asked alot of questions awhile back.

wasnt that what i was saying tho? just dropping -1 in the front would be a huge difference, so adding +2 in the back would make it alittle bit more conservative - and if your switching out both sprockets, why not just get the 520 kit for less rotating mass..

^ OK i was obviously read your post completely wrong, i dont know what the hell i was looking at, my bad 100%. But as far as your above post, adding +2 to the back will not make it more conservative though, that will continue to make it more aggressive. Your spot on about the 520 conversion. On a few 600's i rode going -1 +2 was really good, i tried that on the liter bike though and it seems a bit too much, again my opinion. Anyhow Verm my point was you were right in your original post and i dont know what the hell i was looking at lol
