Sounds like fuel starvation. Make sure all of your seals are tight around the carbs. Being that your petcock is leaking, does it flow ok? I would pull the line off of your petcock to see if it flows a decent amount of fuel. It could also be the 98 engine required bigger carbs, or bigger jets. I think they were the same, but I dont know for sure. I would get the specs on a 98 engine and see if the carbs you have are the same. Also, Do you have the air box on and sealed up? No air box can make the bike run like crap.

Here's the thing. It doesn't pick back up after 6k. and after about 3rd gear, it doesn;t have the balls to accelerate. It actually decelerates.

Ok, a quick reply to this one would be great.. After investigation, you know those little "flap" things in the carbs? http://www.digitalpeer.com/id/hondacbrfcarburetor fourth picture down, little black thing at bottom of hole. Ok, mine don't move. If I give it full throttle they still dont move (not running) Does it have to run to open those up? This seems like it could be the problem.

Thing is, everything was PERFECT when i took it apart. Ran like a champ. I don't see how it could be dead now.
