They told me when I bought it not to run much past 6k or at a constant RPM for prolonged periods during the first 600 mi... the latter was harder than the former cause there's virtually no traffic out here, we dont' even have a stoplight in town  I'll admit I'm not a gasoline engine expert, diesels more my thing so didn't really know any better. They told me the same thing when I got the F4i back in 01 - maybe it's a Honda service department rumour?

Sorry to threadjack....

I think Honda is covering their ass.  With my '04 1000RR I kinda went in between an easy break in and a "rode it like you stole it" break in.  The problem is that if you go too easy the rings don't seat properly and you can end up with an engine that smokes and is down on power.

EVERY bike I have owned broke in the same way and made VERY good power afterwards. Varying rpm for the first 200 miles, not going to redline, then let it have it!!

Whats the prob? Put the same mods on a 08 and see what happens! I expect well into the 170's!

different dyno's different numbers, that's whats going on. and +1 about the mods.

i didn't know busas only put out 10 or 15 more hp than liter bikes? if so thats kinda lame considering the extra 300cc and 100 lbs.

A Busa or a 14 is in a lower state of tune than the liter bikes. Minor tweaks without going deep into the motor and the big bores make much more power.

You must mean crank hp not wheel hp. Cause seeing 08 cbr 1000 hp reviews or even his dyno numbers. The 08 cbr is not going to break the 170 wheel hp mark!!
