I have a 1991 cbr1000f and it idles ok at first then begins to idle up to 4,000 plus RPM also does not idle down inbetween shifting gears, I have looked and checked for vaccuum leaks unable to find any replaced the Insulators as well checked the jets to see if they are clean and open so Im stumped any one help???

Hi Ron. Firstly check cable freeeplay. Make sure they are not binding or tight. I don't think that's it but a place to start. Quick & simple. Next I'd be looking at the choke. Are all the choke plungers returning to the home position when the choke is turned off. Could also be just the choke cable out of adjustment or seized.
On cold mornings I start my bike before I put on my helmet & gloves. If I take too long with too much choke the revs suddenly jump to 2000 - 3000 rpm. which makes me think it's a choke problem.

+1 Bluebeard - I've had a similar problem. Maybe some lube on the cable inners and the choke assembly ?
