Thanks Gill, interesting. What do they know anyway! Of course the only street bike I have been on is my '88.

Shadow1 -> RE: We scored Fourth... (5/10/2008 6:33:56 AM)

What were the journo's smoking.........?[:@]
I'd pit my old 90 model against any of those except the more modern CBR1000F, and I guarandamntee, over distances that we regularly travel, ie > 700 miles in a day, that none of those other bikes will get there ahead of me, or will be able to stand up straight without pain, as I will. What a crock.......
Shows you how much motorcycle journalists really know..........

CorruptMind -> RE: We scored Fourth... (5/10/2008 6:53:04 AM)

Wasnt it a battle of best tourer? Why does it appear all of the tops are based on performance rather than comfort? Thats what touring is about like Shadow said... getting there and not needing a break from the ride. I agree, what a crock.

pacojoseph -> RE: We scored Fourth... (5/10/2008 6:59:52 AM)

I linked to this yesterday in another thread, and have posted this before, but we did marginally better in this comparison. Hope the link works.

Shadow1 -> RE: We scored Fourth... (5/10/2008 11:28:43 AM)

Nope, no luck.........

pacojoseph -> RE: We scored Fourth... (5/10/2008 11:40:33 AM)

Shadow you need some computer lessons- click on the link, then click on the "CBR1000F comparison.pdf", then click on download or on the arrow pointing down.

Maybe I do..........but depite your well documented, concise but eloquent instructions,
I get this
http://www.jackpotcity.com/casino/eng/index.aspx?trd=1&MU=xp
The page loads before the correct page can be selected, looks like its been cyberjacked.
Never mind......so we fared a bit better.....so ? Are the journo's telling us anything we don't already know ?
*Great, long legged touring bike
*Big tank, long time between stops
*Excellent riding position, great pillion seat
*Willing, healthy engine will run all day and all night, reliably
*Better than average running costs
* The original "ballistic sofa"- smoothes out the bumps very well
*Honda quality
You and I both know that in order to fully evaluate a bike, you have to ride it and live with it for much longer than the average bike writer, whose primary concern is which restaurant has the best lunch they don't have to pay for, and getting their story written to please as many people as possible. Maybe the other manufacturers were serving better lunches that day......[:D]

What browser (and version) are you using. It works for me using IE 7, Firefox 2.0.0.14, and Netscape 9. Anyone else get through or have problems?

pacojoseph -> RE: We scored Fourth... (5/10/2008 1:26:03 PM)

Alternatively, try http://www.box.net/ and log in with (username) pacoman032001@yahoo.com and password paco.

Good one, so true!

MarkR -> RE: We scored Fourth... (5/10/2008 5:14:16 PM)

That site is a bit weird, I stole the file and put it up on my ftp

Shadow1 -> RE: We scored Fourth... (5/10/2008 9:17:44 PM)

Thanks MarkR, the report from Cycleworld is certainly a more balanced approach, and highlights the inadequacies of the other (pot smoking)[:D] version.
If anyone's interested I have the reports from Essential Superbike, which make interesting reading, too.
Wherever it ended up on the "writer" scale, to me it's a damned good bike, and I wouldn't swop it for any of the others, and I've owned a Katana, and done over 3000 miles on the FJ1200. The Ninja ? Well, I rebuilt its older brother, the GPZ900R, which in its day was a helluva bike, but comparing the GPZ to the CBR1000F is unfair - 7 years in bike evolutionary terms is 7 Darwinian lifetimes...[:D][:D]

mikekop -> RE: We scored Fourth... (5/11/2008 4:39:08 AM)

A while ago I scanned an article from a Swedish bike magazine, a comparision test, where the CBR won! The test is from -95, and in swedish, so I guess not many of you can read it, but anyways, here is a link to it: http://www.sporthoj.com/forum/showpost.php?p=3401170

Shadow1 -> RE: We scored Fourth... (5/11/2008 8:16:38 AM)

Well illustrated article, Mikekop - thanks. So, finally some journos got it right.....[:)]
Maybe they don't get free lunches or smoke pot there.....he he
Damn ! wish I could read Swedish.......[X(]
