BIKE HEIGHT CHANGE??

TMcNally954 -> BIKE HEIGHT CHANGE?? (5/10/2008 11:41:08 AM)

so i just bought my 954 and the guy before me said he lowered the bike....

when i sit on i can feel that its lowered, im not sure how much, but i would just like to raise it about a half an inch, my feet touch the ground very easily, i just feel like i would be a little more comfortable riding if the back end was up about a half inch or so... anyone know how to adjust the rear height??? is it expensive or time consuming??

thanks.

Depends on how he lowered the rear end. If he used lowering links then you will have to replace the aftermarket links with stock links. He could have just softened the rear shock which made the rear end compress, if he did then you can just tighten the rear shock. Pictures would be very very helpful.....preferably pictures of the shock and links. If you can get pictures then I can point you in the right direction. Is the front lowered as well or are you not sure? if you are not sure take a picture of the upper triple tree area.

would you could you take a pick off the area under the yellow shock, like right where the kickstand bolts up?

the front doesnt appear to have been lowered

the bike looks awsome though

To lower the rear that much, you have to change the dog bone linkage, or something with the linkage on your rear suspension. And those may have one setting or may have two or three settings to set how low you want it. You'll have to take pics of your shock linkage to show us and see what you have. Front forks are easy. Just loosen pinch bolts and raise the bike. Make sure you have it supported before you loosen pinch bolts or the bike will drop! lol

Like stated above if the bike is lowered then its from lowering links in the rear. The front looks stock to me, lowered bikes look good but only if the front is lowered to. I have to see a bike that has just the rear lowered, looks like crap TO ME. But like Nibb said we need a pic of the lower area. If you cant figure out what exactly were talkin bout look under the shock but above where the two side fairings come togather. They look like two triangles with bolts threw all three sides i believe.

shit, the pics are upside down... u get the point though.. thanks guys

bignibb -> RE: BIKE HEIGHT CHANGE?? (5/13/2008 3:29:40 PM)

i can't tell for sure but it looks like a stock dog bone, and they offer no adjustments so im guessing if your bike was lowered it was done via the shock adjustment.

and your kickstand does'nt apear to be cut and rewelded or heated and bent so im guessing once again it was done with the shock but not to the point to where the kickstand needed to be altered so the bike would'nt stand straight up.

pimpncbr954s -> RE: BIKE HEIGHT CHANGE?? (5/13/2008 3:43:09 PM)

It is aftermarket dogbones. You can tell because of the other holes in it for different settings, you need a stock dogbone to raise it.

TMcNally954 -> RE: BIKE HEIGHT CHANGE?? (5/13/2008 5:39:19 PM)

where can i get a stock "dogbone" and how much? is that the traingle looking peice with the 3 bolts in it?

bignibb -> RE: BIKE HEIGHT CHANGE?? (5/13/2008 9:26:46 PM)

its not the triangle its the piece the triangle is connected to

well with with the one you have I believe one of the three setting is the stock height setting.

now on the picture you posted with the triangle

you see the triangle and this stick with a hole passing through it with the hole on the left

there are three holes

yours is in the middle hole if you move it to the right hole

you will have two holes on the left and you would be in third hole

the farthest to the right and that should raise it back to stock height.

the good news is someone else already did the hard part of installing the dog bone

you and a friend should be able to get it back to stock height no problem!

TMcNally954 -> RE: BIKE HEIGHT CHANGE?? (5/16/2008 9:52:17 AM)

how do i take the tension off of the dogbone to get the bolt out of it? i unscrewed the bolt on the side of it. but its very hard to pull the bolt out... how do i support the dogbone? or whatever it is i need to support to get the bolt out? thanks alot.

TK954RR -> RE: BIKE HEIGHT CHANGE?? (5/16/2008 11:52:54 AM)

To do this job you will want to have a friend or 2 around, especially if you are going to do the front also. Just have a guy or 2 lift up the tail a bit while you pull the bolt and reinsert into the proper hole. If you dont have friends [:D] then a couple of ratchet straps and ceiling joices are going to be your best bet.

TMcNally954 -> RE: BIKE HEIGHT CHANGE?? (5/16/2008 11:59:50 AM)

well even with the swingarm off the ground it seems very tight. should i just use a deadblow hammer and punch it out the other side? it seems just as hard to get the bolt out while the bike is on the stand then it does with the bike off the ground?

i just didnt want to pull that bolt out and not be able to move the triangle peice to the other hole, or have the weight of the bike come down and me not be able to get the bolt in any of the holes
