i was wondering if it would be possible to fit a 160 at therear and 120 in front ?

The 120 in front isn't a problem (as far as I know). Most guys don't seem to go beyond 150 on the earlier bikes, I'm just not sure about the swingarm clearances. The wider you go, beyond a certain point, the more handling problems you have. The 1989-92 bikes were designed for a 170 tyre, I run a 180, but there have been posts here which advise not going beyond that, as it affects the handling badly.....

120 front works well.
150 is the max for the rear tyre due to the rear rim wideness. No problem with swingarm an such, but the tyre profile will be totally wrong with any wider tyre than 150.
A popular way to modify the old Hurricane is to buy a 1989 or newer rear rim that fits a 170/180 tyre.

the bike will work the best with 110/80 on the frond and 140/80 on the rear if you wont to corner fast. The other size tires will alter the geometry of the bike, like a 120 on the steer makes the bike turn faster like over steer .Maybe you might like the way it handles, my self i like to ride a fast smooth corner. It is up to the rider and the way he or she likes to ride. Choosing tyres and sizes is a personal thing and what you wont and like that suites your riding.

I hate to bring this topic back up. I know several of you have been around this block too many times. However I am somewhat new to modifying my 88 Hurricane 1000. So I will get right to the point. It was posted in this thread that the later 89 and up rear wheel may be mounted on my 88. Is this a straight swap? I had posted once before reguarding tire sizes for my original wheel as there seems to be a very limited supply of sport style tires in the 140 style. I like the pic''s I have seen of the VFR swap, but as I have no real shop, nor the interest in paying someone that much to modify my bike, this is not an option I plan on following up on.

As said a couple of times the -87/-88 can use 140 or 150 rear. Not any wider.
The -89 or newer rim is probably almost a straight swap.
I have a couple of days ago bought myself a Kawasaki ZXR750 rear wheel with 180 tyrewidth which I will fit this weekend on my -87 Hurricane. The reason I bought a Kawa wheel is that there are a lot more ads out with those bikes for sale in parts than with Honda parts.
I will start a new post after I am finnished so have your eyes open after the weekend.

I appreciate the info. As stated I''m new to this and just wanted to verify the later wheel would fit the older bike. I don''t get much help from Honda, and there doesn''t seem to be too many folks around here fooling with this vintage bike.

You can fit a 180 in the swingarm, but you need to bend the brake stay arm a little to clear the tire.  I used a 5.5" rim off a 95 model.  I needed to make some custom spacers but otherwise the axle/cush drive/rotor bolt right up.

I''m glad I reposted this. H_H and Mr. Self Destruct have both given me hope for an easier exchange than trying to come up with a vfr rear or buying a newer bike just to have one with updated features.

One last uestion..have anyone used radial tires and if yes is ther a big difference with bias ? I wanan akno if an make the range  of fitting the tires is expending..

The range of tyre types is far bigger with the wider tyre size. The 180 size allows the use of multi-compound touring tyres too. On my old 81 CB750 Custom I''m stuck with narrow, crossply tyres from limited manufacturers.

I haven''t upgraded the rear rim, but it does sound like a promising mod. I used Michelin tx (older series), macadam, Metzeler MEZ1 and MEZ2 radials for a while. I''m currently using Bridgestone BT-45s. The ride is definitely smoother with the radial. I don''t feel all the ripples in the freeway. The draw back is a different type of feedback thru the front at high lean angles. If you''re not fully leaned off in the corners and dragging the main and side stands on the asphalt, I wouldn''t worry about it. The radials will work fine. If I can find them again I would use the MEZ-1 front and MEZ-2 in the rear. Just be a little careful about grabbing throttle on a cold tire. It definitely needs to get warm for grip.
