When  I start the bike, the tach goes to around 3500, then it slowly goes back down to 1500.  Is something wrong with my idle or is this the norm with these F4i bikes?

Does anyone know how to fix this?

2004 CBR600 F4i with 6400 miles.

yeah its high. I idle at about 1600- 1700 when its cold and at about 1100 rpm idle when its warm. All you need to do is just adjust the idle a little, its not hard to do but it would take me a while to try and type an explanation. Someone has to have a pic to show.

During the winter if my bike hasn't ran in a few weeks, it'll idle around 2.5-3k right at start up, and slowly go down.  Couldn't tell you exactly what it does when I use it everyday, as I haven't been able to yet.

Depends on the temps when its started. 3500 doesnt sound bad for a second or two on startup.1500 is a tad high ,mine has always been 1300 since new.
If its real cold outside mine will high idle for a few seconds. But most of the time its in the garage and usually doesnt see over 2k at start up.

+1

there's high idle mode and low-idle mode. Low idle doesn't kick in until the temp gets to around 100-103 or so. same with cars. 1500 is fine, but if you want to adjust it, you can.

It does sound normal..mine does the exact same thing but might idle just a hair bit lower.

I noticed tonight that I'm idling tight around 1500-1600 at a stop even after running for about 1/2 hour...is this ok?  Maybe It has been that way since I got it and maybe this thread just made me concious of it..hmmmmmmmmmm...had an inspection sticker put on this past weekend...the techs don't do anything with the idle during an inspection do they lol

Just wait till the engine is nice and warmed up and adjust the idle speed knob for 1300 RPM.  Piece of cake.
