2 more problems

eknerr -> 2 more problems (5/11/2008 8:30:32 AM)

Problem 1:  Does anybody know what might cause my front brakes to lock up after riding?  It has only happend twice, but I dont know what might be causing it.  When it happens I just open the bleeder valves and a little fluid comes out, and they unlock.

Problem 2:  I tried adjusting my clutch so that it engages sooner, but I reached the end of the adjustment limits.  Does this mean I should replace my clutch?  It doesn't slip or anything, it just won't engage until the very end of the lever's travel.

Any help will be much appreciated!

Problem 1: air in your lines.  Bleed them proper or have someone else do it... are they stainless?

Problem 2:  The clutch has to places for adjustment, minro adjustment (handlebars), major adjustment (clutch cover).  If both routes have been explored then a new clutch may be in your near future.

The brake lines are stock.  When bleeding them, should I start on the left or right side?

And yes, I tried both adjustments.

Thanks for your help KidCr3nshaw

If its not air in the lines, you might be instore of a rebuild. The pistons may be too gunked up. Usually with air they just feel really soft.

I would swap all the fluid out with new stuff, just to be on the safe side.  It sounds like air in your lines.

How old is your clutch?  Maybe a cable replacement?

if the brakes lock up and you open the bleeder screw and the unlock it sounds like you have a collapsed brake line thats holding pressure, i would recommend you replace them as it can be hard to tell if they are collapsed or not they have a inner hose and a outer hard rubber shell, sometimes you can pinch and bend the lines and watch for the calliper to release to verify its a line, but it does not always work

there could be debris of some kind in your brake lines, :) http://www.cbrforum.com/m_566531/tm.htm
