Welcome to the site. About riding, just take your time and learn at your own pace. Find a nice empty parking lot to start in, then work your way up from there as you feel comfortable. As far as lowering goes, there is plenty of aftermarket available for all the cbr's except the new 08 1000 (which i assume you wont be getting anyhow). The kits are pretty cheap and easy to install, you can drop bikes 3 inches or so.
