Ok so I'm looking at 2 jackets, and I know the right answer already I guess. The first is a leather joe rocket that says "Honda" across the front. I'd like to get a black one to be neutral, but they do have a blue that matches my bike. Cheapest I've found has been like 225-250 on Ebay but they don't have my size (38 or 40). Hitch, I did find a 42, however I'm not really sure, because I think that would fit pretty loose. So second cheapest is like 315 bucks.

Or I could get this wicked cool mesh joe rocket jacket that says "Honda" on it, and is blue/silver just like my bike for 170. I currently wear mesh, but it's my brothers jacket so I have to buy my own. What should I do? I really don't want to buy both but I like the protection leather gives me. I just don't want to be hot when it's 100+ out.

Help me decide!!

I'd rather sweat than bleed. Go leather.... just keep a bottle of cologne with you.

If you'll wear the leather get it.  I know I won't when commuting to work in the summer so I started off with mesh, it's much better than nothing.  You can always upgrade to leather later when you find a good deal or have more money.  I wouldn't get a jacket that doesn't fit right either.

bassJAM makes a good point.  The best gear is the gear you wear.  Leather won't protect you if it's hanging in your closet because it's too hot to wear.

You might want to look for perforated leather.  I got a really good price on a used perf. leather jacket on ebay.  It doesn't flow as much air as my old mesh jacket (that I donated to another forum member) but as long as I'm not sitting in traffic, it's not too bad.

Hands down Leather has better protection, but it can get really hot during the summer. If you have the money for both Mesh and Leather go for it. I have CBR Mesh Jacket and its great with ventilation; and the protection is still there. It has the back armor, shoulder, forearm and elbow CE protection.

Skin grows back, leather doesn't.

j/k, I agree with the rest that leather is the best protection. Mesh is better than nothing but not great protection. The A*'s TZ1 jacket I bought is all leather (no mesh for extra ventilation) and after a months use, even though we haven't reached 100 yet, I gotta say it wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be in near 90˚ temps. Look for perforated leather.

Leather all the way....Most leather jackets out there has a lining that you can remove anyway.
If it's still too hot for ya....just go faster!!!!

I just picked up a new Joe Rocket leather about an hour ago, I love the thing. It''''s got some perferated holes in it and some mesh up the sleeves and stomach and lets the air flow great! My back got a little hot on the ride back to work, but not much more than normally w/o any jacket

I was gonna get that one, but they only had size 40 as the smallest one. So I got the Sonic 2.0

they only had 2 at my local place, 46 & 48, i got the 48 but might have been good in a 50, they said I can ride it for a week and if it doesn''t work bring it back, so far though it''s very comfy, fits well, and light

i didnt read all the replys, but, perforated leather, or naked.

if you get a good jacket, you''ll be able to zip it to some pants later if you decide to do a track day
