Onarom -> 2007 vs 2008 1000RR comparison (5/14/2008 12:10:11 AM)

I saved last years shootout from "Roadracing World" Magazine and compared it to the new one. Unfortunately, it looks like they used a different track because times varied by +/-20seconds from last year to this one. But here are some other numbers for you:

Wet Weight:
2007- 450 pounds (51.6F/48.4R)
2008- 438 pounds (52.7F/47.8R)

Measured HP:
'07- 155.01@11,200
'08- 149.66@10,600

Measured Torque:
'07- 78.09@8550
'08- 76.64@9600

Redline:
'07- 12,200
'08- 13,400

Horsepower to weight ratio:
'07- 2.90
'08- 2.93

Engine Speed @ 60mph:
'07- 3890rpm
'08- 4186rpm

Seat Height:
'07- 33.6"
'08- 32.6"

weird every mag i'v ever read said the new 08 is 17 lbs lighter wet then the 07 you just posted 12

and more hp and torque on the 07? thats news to me =p

CBRCRF -> RE: 2007 vs 2008 1000RR comparison (5/14/2008 7:33:07 AM)

Im stunned that the 08 has less HP. People kept on telling me that it was increased. Not that it really matters on the street. Is the engine the same as the previous gen?
Besides all new styling, ram air and slipper clutch is there any other difference between the two gens?

RojerLockless -> RE: 2007 vs 2008 1000RR comparison (5/14/2008 10:32:49 AM)

the new 08 has more hp but maybe only 5, it's not much but it's not Less.  it's slimmer and uses lighter material too then the 07 model it has thinner walls inbetween the pistons ect to reduce weight i read about it in one of my mag's

the two reviews he posted were a year apart so weather elevation and the dyno used all play a factor in the sheets, i'v seen reveiws they review and 08 and 07 the same day and thats what you need to be reading

Onarom -> RE: 2007 vs 2008 1000RR comparison (5/14/2008 10:33:23 AM)

Even if it doesn't have as much HP, it does weigh less and it makes more hp per pound. The same magazine said that it was no contest who the winner was (unlike last year). The CBR was making the fastest lap times, installed the most confidence, and handled "just like the CBR600RR" and when compared to the other bikes, the honda felt more powerful.

I was shocked that the 08 made less HP and torque. But I think most people give "horsepower" too much credit, and Honda has definately proven that point this year.

Will1000RR -> RE: 2007 vs 2008 1000RR comparison (5/14/2008 11:47:37 AM)

well ur right less weight, a lot trimmer, more hp.tqe.. ive heard other not particularly interested in the dyno sheets and I kinda agree..these dynos shows very extremes...lol

Kinda dont know what to believe..    My point is how in the world is Honda gonna produce a brand new machine that is gonna less in quality ie: hp, tqe etc..than the previous year !!!!!!!!!!!!!

this machine is a rocket..  and its true less weight with whatever HP is gonna be torquety...(my word...lol)

The 08 on the same day with an 07 will always have more hp and tq. Its a better bike in every aspect. Two different mag articles a year apart has a lot of factors involved.

Hi ,,

Nice ,, but for me I like 07 more 08 .... In reason of changing bike design to that bad design now [:D]

I ride Repsol forever

TBagr -> RE: 2007 vs 2008 1000RR comparison (5/16/2008 7:00:07 PM)

08 is better, lighter and stronger. period.

PlayfulGod -> RE: 2007 vs 2008 1000RR comparison (5/16/2008 7:09:05 PM)

look at the hp@rpm again, the 08 is revving a 1k less and can rev 1k more. Its lighter so it has a better power to weight ratio.

Bishop1981 -> RE: 2007 vs 2008 1000RR comparison (5/22/2008 5:34:49 PM)

I got an 06' RR.  Im pretty sure the only difference between the 06' and 07' is, the 07' has a powder coated swing arm.  I would have to agree the 08' has bound to make more power.  And,  having 1,200 more revs the play with and 17 less lbs, the 08' simply has to out perform it. But, as everyone should know, the rider makes all the difference.  I must admit.  If I had the money, I would get an 08', if I could still keep my 06'.  I love the look of that center exit exhaust....[;)]

TK954RR -> RE: 2007 vs 2008 1000RR comparison (5/22/2008 8:53:46 PM)

As far as reliabilty, or quality, i dont think you can judge that yet, including the mags. Imho that is something that takes time and miles. Ask me in a year when you guys have 8-12k miles on the bike if its the most reliable, or best built.

PatK1RR -> RE: 2007 vs 2008 1000RR comparison (5/23/2008 8:01:40 PM)

Well, if you look at dyno charts taken on the same dyno, same day, the '06-'07 produces more hp and more torque than the '08 everywhere except at very high rpm.  This is exactly the same treatment Suzuki gave their GSX-R1000 in '07 compared to the '05-'06 model years (to the dissatisfaction of many).
Which means that the bike is better suited for WSBK riders on their mondo race tracks, but that the '06-'07 is still a better bike on the streets because it produces torque and hp sooner.  That is mainly what prevents me from trading in my '06 for the '08.
